My guess, albeit a wild one, is that they just shipped these out for the soft launch, and he was lucky to get one from the new shipment instead of the old one. I doubt it was a manufacturing mix up, that just isn't the kind of mistake a company makes. That would be like shipping an elite in a core box.

Need I point out that the Wii is surpassing everyone's sales? It's the Wii. In fact, throughout it's entire life, the PS3 has never sold more consoles than the Wii, and it has never surpassed the Wii in monthly sales.
But if selling the most all it took to be the best consoles, we wouldn't be having this discussion, would we? Because I would have a different hobby for a start.

I believe July was one of the worst gaming months in recent memory. What with the constant barrage of Xbox 360 negativity, the poor shell of what was once E3, the "is-it-or-is-it-not-a PS3 price-cut", a total lack of releases, as well as te usual fanboy lover's quarrelling. I only seem to recall bad news during July. Things are only just starting to perk up.
And here folks, we have a prime example of an opinion.

Sidar, it pains me to always see you defend the Wii so fervently. I just need to figure out if you're really defending the casual gamers as a whole, or just your own preference of the Wii over all other gaming consoles.
The Wii is the lowest common denominator. It might be fun, and I believe it is. But it just isn't in the same class as the other gaming machines. I'm sure you realise that, and you just choose to ignore it.

I agree because I don't think it's right that the format companies and retail outlets wield the power to decide when and how we advance to a new format. also agreed to disliking the flood now, it's more annoying for me because so few weapons work on them. As we all know, the shotgun works best, but there never seems to be enough ammo for it. In fact i'd say lack of ammo was a big issue for me in halo 2, I hope it isn't the case for 3.

No, the 360 upscales to 1080p. But I think the HD-DVD drive is the only true native 1080p at the moment. I'm pretty sure that will change.
