I'm not worried about someone trying to hack PSN again so much as I hope Sony can detect a hack quicker. If PSN gets shut down again but Sony can confidently say no one completly got in and nothing got taken, I'd be fine with that.
But I think this is just the beginning of another battle between Sony and hackers. The way this is going, you can forget about Sony allowing any internal access to their next console. We'll be lucky if it has USB ports.
I define camping as a sniper taking advantage of spawn areas or other map exploits.
Anything else is fair game...
In a way, jailbreaking leads to piracy. Not every person jailbreaks with the intention of piracy but pirates do benefit from the work of jailbreakers. Once a system is cracked open, there's a surge of people using that work to their own advantage. Is everyone going to use that knowledge in a responsible way? No and once that information is out, there is no way to ever fully control it again. Even if you aren't actively trying to pirate, the temptation of getting things for free can b...
Never underestimate the determination of people who have ABSOLUTELY nothing better to do. Someone will try it again, of course. I just hope Sony can detect them earlier next time.
The only question I have is whether or not the keys Geohot put online definitely had something to do with the hackers getting in. If so, that should shut up all the people who said Sony shouldn't have sued him.
Just as long as they don't start by apologizing for the inconvenience and thanking us for our patience. If I hear those words again I might snap.
I read in this article that "penetration testing software" was used in the attack, running a constant scan that took six weeks to find a way into Sony's servers:

Coupled with this news, you can see this wasn't done by some punk kid on his laptop.
At the same time look at Brink. Sales will probably take a hit because many of the reviews are saying that the game is unplayable online. People may wait until the game is fixed before trying it or might not even get around to buying it at all.
On the other hand, there's Modern Warfare 2. The game was buggy from the beginning but still sold exceptionally. IW was patching the game for months afterwards but still never got it completely right.
I wish but I know too many people that live and breathe CoD to not buy this game.
Another undeserving hit for Activision. MW3 will be big but I think it will be the sales peak of the series. Black Ops 2 by Treyarch next year? Oh, please...
EA put a commercial on Family Guy a few weeks ago and the game is not out for at least another 5 months. I think they are going all out on this one.
The only patches that I understand on day one are for multiplayer and even then only for connectivity issues. If a game is buggy (frame rate and texture issues, for example), I don't see why a developer would miss these issues in the months it takes to make the game and then expect reviewers and consumers to accept them. I'd rather the game be delayed than come out buggy with patch after patch to fix it.
The article brings up Alpha Protocol and makes a good point. I e...
That's weird. Mgs3 is the only one that I haven't played through twice and I thought it had the least complicated story of all of them.
Sony sued to prevent exactly what's going on now from happening. Those keys were the reason no one has breached Sony's security and why they PS3 wasn't hacked for almost 5 years.
Geohot violated Sony's copyrights and they took him to court. Graf _chokolo was served a court ordered cease and desist for PS3 hacking and violated it the next day. The hackers knew what they were getting into and were warned. Sony took them to court only as a last resort.
Shouldn't you wait until after Sony said they were done before trying to prove they weren't?
It's not the number of games that milks a series, it's the time between them. Three Guitar Heros in one year is milking a series. A CoD and Halo every year is milking a series. As much as I hate to say it, even Assassins Creed is being milked.
A price drop was already inevitable with Nintendo releasing a new console this year. They've even already dropped the price of the Wii.
Wait, something else was supposed to happen?
The game is solid. Can't wait to play some custom campaign and multiplayer.
Sony doesn't need to be dominant in the US as much as Microsoft absolutely needs to. It would be embarrassing to lose console marketshare in your home country. That would be like Nintendo and Sony being topped by Microsoft in Japan (which will never happen). Keep in mind that the 360 had a full year with no competition in the US and since then, Microsoft has been struggling to maintain that momentum. Halo, Gears, and CoD can't keep them afloat forever.
PS3 has been out for almost 5 years and you're still expecting cross game chat? I'm sure Sony has larger priorities at the moment. They also said they were redesigning PSN with new features in mind but that doesn't mean they'll be up immediately. Hell, bringing the Store back up is going to take a few weeks.
Gears 1 and 2 are at six million after how many years of release? And Halo 3 came out at least 4 years ago...
You're comparing a game that's been out 6 months to titles that have been out much longer.
