are preaching this as if it were written by a neutral person when in fact it's by someone from the BDA. Get out of town! BDA saying YET AGAIN that they will be the winners of all eternity?!
FUD at it's finest
if both formats use the same codecs and same audio formats (audio dependent on the studio, neither are 100% lossless but both do have lossless audio, btw DD+ is not lossless and is an HD audio
Some studios preached the need for 50gb so hence HD DVD has the TL51 disk eventually due out soon
As it stands, there are some hurdles. Remember that HD DVD was designed for movies and that 50gb is NOT needed for movies. BD started as a PC storage medium and jumped into the movie realm. Obviously as a storage medium it is all great but for movies, 50gb is overkill let alone 100gb or even the 200gb. Again, for HIGH DEF MOVIES, disk space is a pissing contest.
it will move BD software, I just don't think it'll be the savior like everyone thinks it will. People with PS3s aren't buying BDs now, what makes you think those who waited for a price drop will be more than willing to drop the extra $ for HDM? Most are waiting for the price drop and games. Games are coming, price drop is around the corner. I'll get one for both gaming and BD. I'm console AND format neutral. PS3 is not what it's cracked out to be and BD is in shambles <- honest opinion... ...
GC was known by all to be more of a 'kiddy' title but they still sold well. Dreamcast killed itself, PS2 was just a reason why gamers walked away from Sega and their continuous persuit of releasing consoles and add ons (Sega Genesis, 32x, Sega CD, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast all in what, 6-7 yrs?)
PS3s are not selling at the same rate of 360. Why do you think Sony is releasing a stripped down $400 version? cuz it ain't selling as well as 360. I sure will buy one for $400 but not $500+ ...
They broke off from the HD DVD forum to start BD with others who were greedy. They attempted a quick blow to HD DVD but it didn't work. Neither format will 'win' but both will become a stalemate
BD is in shambles right now with ALL the crap they have done or can't get done (i.e. BD1.1 release, BD1.1 compliant players, BD2.0, BD-Jave being 'easy', BD+ not having issues, etc etc)
bluboys, if you guys are such fans then why is it that you guys aren't buying movies in BD. Proof is in the sales figures: 1.5:1 lead with 7 times the players.
Disney wants region coding. FOX wants BD+. They are both proBD since they are anti piracy and would rather have someone rebuy a movie if they were to go to EU, JAP, AUS, etc. When was the last FOX release? Oh yeah, back in April. You're 'superior' format is having issues playing BD disks in BD players (i.e. PotC BD doesn...
You forgot something... BDA paid Target to favor BD, hence why they are 'proBD'
;)
TL51 (51gb disks) isn't finalized yet by the HD DVD forum. It was approved by the forum to proceed but it's not finalized. What this is is a disk space pissing contest between both formats. BD preached 50gb, HD DVD came saying they can do 51gb. Now BD is back at it with 100gb. Think about this for movies... 50gb alone IS NOT NEEDED!!! It's already been proven. ex: Paramount's first exclusive HD DVD movie will be 1080p, 2+hr movie, with full lossless audio all in the DL30 disk. HD DVD forum wi...
Not all players can easily be upgraded. This is signs that the BD format isn't ready and there seems to be a communication issue between BD player manufacturers, BD movie studios and the BDA. Here's where BD1.1, BD+, BD-Java and BD2.0(live) might conflict between disk and player and further proof on WHY an unfinished spec is a major issue.
This also further proves the potential that BD was specifically made for the PS3 and if you are a PS3 fan that's great. If you are a BD or H...
this combo player will be the first true combo player not just playing movies but also having the features both HD DVD and BD utilize.
And with time pricing will drop
SOF2 for PC online was beyond addicting!
note: You can't play 100gb disks for BD movies in standalone BD players. I don't believe ANYTHING the BDA says until I see it with my own eyes. It amazes me how you guys still believe anything they say.
You don't need 100gb for movies either. This would be specifically DATA or even gaming for PS3. That is an advantage, but would publishers actually drop more $ for the extra space? How many games are currently in BD50 now?!
Studios aren't happy with BG50's pricing...
Samsung, a BDA member, making a dual format player delays yet another player (possibly due to BD1.1 and all the issues I've mentioned = BD-Java problems, HDM being too small a market, cost, etc...)
If BD fails for movies, the PS3 will still crank out BD games.
Perfect example is PSP and UMD. UMD for movies failed miserably (as expected) but the PSP still works no problems since all games are in UMD. I would be upset though if I got a PS3 for BD (yes there are nongamers who buy the PS3 as it is THE best BD player out there thanks to the upgradeability all other BD players don't have, i.e. BD = UMD2.0 made specifically for Sony ;) )
According to the BDA, Sony and all Sony fanboys, HD DVD has died 5 times by now.
Let's see about them Panasonic branded BD players... They aren't moving them and are now packing 2-4 movies in the box (for a total of 7-9 free BD movies, not a bad deal) with every Pani BD player. They preached HD DVD would die soon enough by Jan 1. Pani needs to stick to TVs. They are getting desperate to move their players.
Samsung cancelled their latest due-to-be released BD ...
for what's available now? yes
overall? no. an unfinished format can't be superior when they both crank out the same PQ and AQ at a higher cost. BD's great, it's just not ready.
Let's see if BD1.1 profile doesn't move again from the current Oct31 deadline date and let's see that first BD1.1 player (Denon postponed theirs a month back, Samsung canceled theis, rumors are that PS3 won't be on purpose but I think that's BS as PS3 is THE BD player of choice due to it's...
Especially nasim. I crack up on your brand loyal comments. Sony must pay you lovely
Compression techniques is why you can pack this chunk of data onto disks.
The good, this basically means you can record in HD broadcast quality. This isn't related to BD as a movie format.
but I don't believe a word you say anymore. Ever since you admitted to pick up your PS3 MANY MONTHS after backing it up as if you owned one tells me if it took you that long to save up and get the system you loved so much, how are you affording 'all BD' movies that go for more than DVDs when games for for that $60 price tag?
More like crud posting from fanboys. You are better than nasim in a way, which isn't saying much.
Afterall they started the 5 free movie deal after Toshiba ended theirs. Being that the HD DVD forum has extended a 'round 2' on free HD DVD movies it was expected for the BDA to do the same.
With the PS3 price drop, I'll enjoy these movies as well as the other BDs I buy.. HDM is great, my current Toshiba HD-A2 and 15 HD DVDs are excellent but note not all movies should be in HD.
Format and console neutral FTMFW!
