Okay I agree with you - games should be the most important thing on a games console. And I do honestly believe that both Microsoft and Sony will provide us with lots of games AND apps AND other entertainment experiences.
The only real difference is their marketing of it all. Microsoft is focusing on presenting itself as an all-in-one unit, whole Sony is focusing on presenting itself as a game console. However, this is only their marketing.

The problem with your examples is that they are all consumables. They will work perfectly for a certain amount of times, and then their performance will degrade until they do not work anymore.

I like the announced One exclusives a little better than the announced PS4 exclusives as a whole, but that boils down to personal preference and doesn't mean that I don't like the PS4 exclusives. Also, there are more PS4 titles that haven't been announced yet.
They both have great lineups in their own right, which is why owning both is optimal if you can afford it.

The reason behind the DRM was that the discs are full installs. So you could install your on-disc game onto your One (as opposed to downloading it) and then immediately access it from any other console. Admittedly, Microsoft's protection methods weren't optimal for all users,...

I was reading about this earlier. Apparently, manufacturers would have to actually make the consoles in Shanghai in order for them to be sold in China. Plus Chinese officials would have to approve all content. That part kinda sucks, but still.
Whoever gets in there will sell a ton of consoles. That's over a billion new potential customers.
It's nice to see that preliminary interest is strong for both consoles. This means more potential support from developers and better experiences for gamers.
