Congrats to GameBoyColor!
These contest titles are getting too creative. :P
I'm going to draw from your answer and expand to: questionably-earned loot in a game. By that I mean expanding to Pay-to-Win elements coursing through a lot of games like Battlefront 2. I'm pretty easygoing in respect to aesthetic stuff locked behind RNG or paywall (to an extent) but please stop touch the game mechanics with these insane damage or defense boosts. Incorp...
Either minimal loading screens or subtly-incorporated ones (a la Mass Effect's elevators). I don't know...perhaps it's really just a pipe-dream but when CD Projekt Red hyped up "loading screens as a thing of the past," and I shared that quote with friends during the start of this gen. Although The Witcher 3 and ND do a good job of limiting them to acceptable ranges, that's certainly not been the case for many games this gen.
"It is amazing and this is just first gen."
It's really not 1st gen though. VR's been coming and going since the 90's (perhaps some archaic device even before then). It's just sticking around this time.
While hybridization of mobile/console with Nintendo Switch or VR gaming are incredibly tempting, I'll have to go with a more malleable concept: the proliferation of "live services" within games, or "Games as cycles" (working out the kinks in my phrasing but I think that encompasses it better). Now, Updates could be quite a common thing to see on PS3 & 360 but the way they've advanced is more overwhelming than you'd think--for better or worse. For one, th...
Congrats to Yi-Long!!!
Oof…now the quickest answer that comes to mind would be Ride to Hell: Retribution. But that one seems unfitting for “worst game” when considering how often I was laughing at it (would like to do a blog on that soon).
No, if we’re going for “worst game” I’m left with considering something that was more boring or pretentious; something like 4PM or The Grinch (PS1). I think I’ll settle on The Grinch. It’s one of those generic movie-...
Yeah, that's been one of my biggest disappointments with the Disney acquisition: scorched-earth approach to EU with the exception of anything that leaked into Lucas's official work (The Clone Wars in particular kept some ties). And it's interesting how some little details could carry over from different SW series. Like how cortosis explains how swords can stand up to lightsabers in KOTOR and they're considered illegal in the prequel timeline (mentioned in Star Wars: Obi-Wan)...
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons was done under them so that's incorrect.
Congrats to Arty!
I've always been torn by this question, especially when #1 and #2 are so close together. Current all-time favorite is still Star Wars: KOTOR, which I've detailed why in a past review of mine here (though I'd love to expand upon it someday).
It's a great marriage of the traditional Star Wars archetypes found within the early films/Expanded Universe and well-made RPG systems. It wasn't my first RPG experience, but...
Hmmm...that's a strange & tough one to remember in respect to "that made you want to turn video games into a hobby." B/c I feel like I remember some arcade cabinets at a bowling alley, but having a take-it-or-leave-it attitude during these short spurts. The memory that's burned into my memory would be Mario Kart 64. N64 was my first home console and I think that came bundled. After that, I loved the idea of hauling a home console around and playing games on a TV. St...
Hooray! Contests are back!
*Casually awaits the return of old Monthly contests* :P
Best of luck to everyone.
Argh...there goes my user-submission streak! And with something I was actually interested in blogging about (R6: Siege visual design changes). EDIT: Maybe I'll still write something about it.
I don't want this to come off as too harsh, but I had to cringe at the tone set throughout most of it. I'm not really following this whole "Gamers Rise Up!" attitude whenever a few useless think-pieces come up from people you can't stand. I'm not deli...
Aw you mean it? :)
I appreciate the sentiment. Although, I must admit, I still remember years ago wanting to go back and edit my first 20 (or so) reviews from the ground up. It's still something that nags me, especially now having to resurface these two in today's age. lol
Small note to reviewer (if you see this): "middle-of-the-road expansion" is the right way to put it, as you're emphasizing that as an adjective.
Literally in the description:
"'Spider-Man: Turf Wars' is a middle of the road expansion of one of the year's best games."
Saying he's downplaying the game...despite calling it one of the year's best? Quit being disingenuous. There's a difference between assessing the main game and later-released DLC's.
lol you're welcome :)
Hope everyone enjoyed the review. As with the "Alan Wake: The Signal" review, I'm having to resubmit these since the site has a few issues on the backend with simply shifting those reviews over, so both my old Alan Wake review and the two DLC reviews fell under "Alan Wake." So, I'm going back and rectifying that for accuracy's sake, both in respect to my user reviews and publication reviews.
Like with The Signal, I'm fast-tracking t...
Hope everyone enjoyed this (old) review. So, for context, this is one of my first reviews on here. I'm resubmitting due to my 2 Alan Wake DLC reviews falling under 'Alan Wake' for so long and wanted to rectify that and filter through all the other DLC review that came under such umbrella, for the sake of accuracy.
I'm just putting this, and The Writer review, on a fastrack since they were approved of back in the day. Those old ones will be failed in th...
If caring about storytelling, anything at/or above a 9 is unacceptable.
Would be?
Wasteland 3's been in development for a while and set to release next year. Here's the Fig campaign: https://www.fig.co/campaign...
I understand the sentiment but...
"This was solely a MSFT tactic last generation but Sony is now the king of the timed exclusive."
^this is not accurate.
