Given was the Bad Co. campaigns provided, I contend there's a legitimate number of people who care about the SP.

DICE is a more MP-minded developer, certainly; but if BF4's going to have an SP, then I'm sure many will agree they need to improve from their last outing in that department.

Plus, they already announced there would be no co-op so resources are less scattered already.

To be honest, I don't find the CoD/BF reviewing system to be hypocritical. When it comes to the scripted, blockbuster moments seen in every modern military FPS today, CoD commercialized that template. Plus, I'm able to get a lot of enjoyment out of each component, be it SP, co-op MP, or competitive Mp.

Look at Bad Co 1, for example: large open terrain with destructible environments. Look at that transition to a typically-claustrophobic BF3 (save for vehicle mission...

Probably still reigns as PS3's best multiplayer imo.

If anything, it serves as the kind of research other game developers can use to understand what sort of scientifically-measurable qualities in a game are what keep a player so addicted to it.

Off the top of my head:

Portal 1+2
Left 4 Dead 1+2
CS:GO
Half-Life 2: Episode 2
and Dota 2 (no official release date posted yet)

Not too bad of a list, if I do say so myself.

I think you misunderstood my first points. By "editing the points into the review itself" I was talking about JUST the answers being mixed into the batch in paragraph form. For example: your replay value answer and the mention of sidequests, 1999 Mode, etc. could all be mixed into one paragraph solely discussing replay value.

I think it would be better to edit these points into the review itself. So many of these answers can provide so much more fuel for why you think this game is truly a 10/10.

When considering the additional lightsaber Starkiller's clone used in TFUII, it would be most excellent to see this proposed protagonist carry a double-bladed lightsaber in one hand and a normal one in the other (like that Jedi Master used in one of SWTOR's CGI videos).

Perhaps that's just me.

Okay, that's a fair reply that provided clarification. I must admit, the "level of GOW 1-2-3" portion confused of whether you're talking about the game's quality or something else.

Because advertisements forewarn me about the current 'state' of the main character, I should now come in anticipating a lesser product?

I was able to stealth past certain areas of the game. In fact, I don't recall being detected by anyone on that short level before you go inside the White House.

Why do you say "low score" to a 7.5/10?

Edit: Okay, fair enough: it's just sarcasm.

Why does the audience not care?

Granted, I can be hesitant to even bother checking out a review with that stupid description posted above, but what's the harm in us actually testing out the criticisms this reviewer has to say about the game and determining if he's/she's "full of it" or actually presenting a well-articulated...

"... , which this guy obviously lacks."

Harsh, but I'll admit that portion of the review you quoted made me scratch my head as well. It's one thing to have convoluted pretensions, and another to simply be thought-provoking.

I haven't played it yet though so I can't state whether it's the former, the latter, or both. :/

Fair enough. I just wanted to thank you for extending the conversation. :)

Look at the "behind-the-scenes" portion of my first post and recall her using the 'damsal in distress' video to point out how Fox McCloud eventually became the protagonist instead of Krystal for one of Rare's games (with the name changed from Dinosaur Planet to Star Fox Adventures), a decision suggested by Miyamoto when he was looking at the project.

I don't mean to act pedantic about a portion of the blog that's really irrelevant compared to the body of the blog itself, but...the "let me explain how wrong the usage of that term [trope] is in that video" part isn't exactly correct.

This is directly from TVtropes.org (the site you mention): "...'trope' has the even more general meaning of a pattern in storytelling, not only within the media works themselves, but also in related aspects su...

I think it all comes back to the contributor contest rankings. If no one stays on top of submitting Pachter's videos, which can get BIG degrees, who wouldn't jump at the opportunity?

The 57% , but you really mean to say 54.2%, number you're talking about is from GameInformer's survey, which graphed 5000 GI subscribers.

zerocrossing is getting the 23.7% from a SquareTrade study, which took that number from a pool of those who bought warranties for a console.

"Well, we haven't found a critic yet whom we can both appreciate."

I contend that may be partially due to us, the community-at-large, typically giving excited reactions to ANY criticisms whatsoever. Take a look at the prehistoric accounts of the "Tropes vs. Videogames" examples (note: NOT the quality of said series itself) and you'll find the very idea of it brings gamers to spew endless hatred against that notion.

Now, if said se...

It's already looked upon as art though. And I contend having "artsy-fartsy" critics thoroughly examine the goods/bads of any title's story/storytelling/characters will probably strengthen the consumer's demand for a writer to iron out the kinks or avoid trite mechanics in future projects.

If that critic is able to present a proper reason why he/she finds "Cage is pretentious" or "FFX is stereotypical," then the fans can be encouraged...
