A 4670 is definitely a lot faster than the consoles. Its a very low end gaming card now. This test is done with an old Core 2 duo CPU (dual core) @ 3ghz.

Here it has no problems doing a 50FPS average in COD4 @ 1280 x 1024, maximal settings, max 4 x AA. Pretty similar performance to the consoles doing only half that reso...

Overburning will give you more capacity, but not the kind of amount seen here! Maybe you could squeeze another 5-10 percent from the right disc, but this would be far more than that. There is no way overburning alone is responsible for these claims.

Overburning also makes the discs much much more prone to failure, as most failures happen right on the last few percentage area of the disc. Many, many drives struggle to read overburnt discs as a result. If Microsoft were to rely...

You do realise that integrated graphics on PC, i.e in every new machine, are rapidly approaching the performance of the consoles? No joke.

Intel HD 3000 on the latest Sandy bridge cores is not all that far off the chips inside PS3 and 360. One more generation from integrated graphics and it will catch and probably surpass the consoles.

Although Source engine is well known for being superbly well optimised on PC, Sandy bridge's IGP can run Left 4 Dead 2 as...

Its obviously to be blamed on console... at least directly as a result of the transition. The textures have been created and sized to fit into console memory. This would simply not have happened if the game was developed as a PC centric title, instead its a console game with console assets thrown onto PC with minimal improvements.

Clearly we know PC can handle much better, but with the massive distractions involved in making the game run on a new engine for consoles then they...

Sorry @ Ju but i am inclined to agree with vulcanproject here and listen to what he says. I think last time i saw you on here talking about a mini CELL or whatever for PSP2 and vulcanproject said that was nonsense and it would almost certainly use an ARM CPU right, even think he said an A9 generation?

So NGP uses an ARM A9 based CPU.

I get what the guy is sayin, you cant really deny that DirectX has evolved gradually over time with every generation adding new...

Really wrong trroy. Memory bandwidth for a GPU is measured between the GPU and its localised memory. That figure is the speed at which the GPU communicates to it's dedicated memory, not to the system RAM which is an entirely different bus- on a PC its the PCIE bus of course! Wherever did you get any other idea from?

The faster the GPU can communicate with it's memory the better it can perform operations. A GPU is not a CPU after all, they do not have large amounts of ...

How about reading my comment. Sheesh! Stop arguing over graphics like this. It looks hilarious to PC gamers i must say, seeing so many people frenzied and arguing over which game loses least badly to PC.

If you are so bothered about graphics then just get a PC and be above all this stupid nonsense. The HD consoles are so tightly matched with performance it is a matter of opinion and subjective what is the best looking games. All this kind of article does is incite arguments o...

What gameplay? Killzones? Hardly matters does it, if you lot are arguing over what loses least to PC graphically. Crysis 1 and 2 with PC both look far better than anything on console. Heck even lost planet 2 on PC does too, there is a fair list now.

If you focused more on gameplay then these sort of articles and comments would not be as popular or as stupid.

Crysis 1 on Pc wins :-)

Why is this thread going to turn into an argument over a distant second place? The difference between these games is marginal on console.

It is ridiculous. Stop arguing over who loses least badly to PC and just enjoy these games, they look good relative to whatever system they are on, and they play well. What more do you want? Do you really want to spend your lives arguing bu bu it haz teh one moar polygon on teh characterz left pinkie...

Carmack has a Genius level I.Q and his experience with programming environments is undisputed. I do not think its much of a surprise he prefers 360's programming environment, it has always been dev friendly from day one unlike PS3.

Secondly just a few days ago he admitted that DirectX now has the edge, coming from him as one of the biggest promotors of the OpenGL standard. Even though he admits DirectX is now better, he STILL prefers to work in OpenGL regardless. ...

This will go down as one of the biggest and highest profile failures on PC in the format's long history.

Get ready for the backlash from Pc gamers. Come launch week it will get nasty. You mark my words.

Preference is fine Instinct Gamer. I have no problem with people saying they prefer console because they simply feel like it, or because its easier to setup, because i don't think there is any argument there.

However please do not pull down PC if you don't really have all the facts. It seems like you have not used a PC to game for a long time, or even used a PC at all for many years. Times have moved on a fair bit, its clearly not like console but its been streamlin...

Hahaha @ pixelsword! All your great long diatribe did was STILL confirm my comments that MSAA is better than MLAA. I read the pandemic update of course, and all they corrected was the colours, not the fact the fuzzed edges and artifacting still occurs. Basically you spent and wasted your entire comment still pointing out i was correct and MLAA has several drawbacks, including the pandemic 'edge detect' implementation. :-)

All the weaknesses pointed out in the articl...

Ahhh dear pixelsword. I was hoping you would say that. Deary me :-) see you walked right into my little trap. You have no real understanding of these methods of anti aliasing, and also thus missing out crucial key parts of the articles you linked to.

Your own links back everything i have said up. For example, the analysis of The Saboteur. The article says:

"it does have its drawbacks. When edges in-game are one pixel or less than one pixel in thickne...

Please stop talking utter bollocks pixelsword. Everything that i said about MLAA done by PS3 is true, and it is well known. MSAA is just better, because it can anti alias everything in the scene, sub pixel geometry, alpha textures....whatever. How hard is this to understand for people like you?

MLAA is ONLY used by PS3 because:

1) PS3's GPU cannot do MSAA + FP16 HDR at the same time, it is architecturally impossible.

2) Even if it W...

If you look at MGS4's cut scenes then they exhibit fairly obvious poor compression artifacts (in this case macroblocking, google that), this is despite the game supposedly using all 50Gb on the bluray. Audio is also compressed- lossy. Cutscenes were a combination of in engine scenes and CGI.

Assuming Rising uses decent modern compression for the Pc version then you aren't likely to notice much difference between cut scene or sound quality, if anything, the realtime ...

Realistically this generation of consoles cannot do anything like the speed or quality of tesselation seen in this demo. 360 does have a very crude tesselator that has not been used for various reasons, most of them because it is not worth trying.

"For all the PC fans that are gonna come in here saying you dont have limitations, Yes you do its called BLU-RAY. Not every pc has one so they are still limited to dvd"

PC does not really need bluray games. Multiple Dvds are fine, because PCs have massive hard drives hugely faster than PS3 and 360's disc drives/slow 2.5 HDDs to install to. 20Gb Pc game installs are commonplace these days once all the files are uncompressed. Besides this, Pc games are mostly do...
