"That doesn't prove they don't sell, it only proves they are selling at the same rate."

You are absolutely incorrect.
My post shows the PS3 software selling at the same NUMBER of software in 2009 as it did in 2008.

How on earth do you infer the same 'RATE' from the same 'NUMBER'?
Fact is, the 'rate' is defined by 'software sold per console'.
Thus, the 'rate' is actually falling.

Of course, as you pointed o...

All of the arguments presented by the 'anonymous' author of the article could equally be applied to:

God of War III (ps3 exclusive)
Heavy Rain (ps3 exclusive)
GT5 (ps3 exclusive)
MGS4 (ps3 exclusive)

etc etc.

Let's face it. In the absence of monetary compensation for exclusivity, or delayed exclusivity, developers will ALWAYS make more money by releasing ANY game as a multiplat.

FFXIII and GTA4 spring to mind, as perfect ex...

"Who says PS3 games don't sell?"

well, fact is, Sony's very own financial report says so.

As was proven in this post, http://n4g.com/NewsCom-4697... , Sony is on track to sell about the same number of games in FY 2009 as it did in FY 2008.

Any reasonable person might expect the ps3 to increase its software sales, along with its ...

Shame, Sony, Shame!

I like that suggestion Mr T.

One thing I like about my PS3 is that I can watch bluray movies.
IF MS were to add a BR drive to the 360, that advantage would be negated.

However, I believe MS is currently making profits on its hardware.
If a BR drive were to be added, the profit margin might be reduced, or eliminated.

As a case in point, consider the $299 PS3 sku. It reputedly still loses $33 per hardware sku. IF MS added bluray to the $199 arc...

What planet are you on?

The 360 has had mainboard redesigns, die shrinks for cpu and gpu, heat efficiency improvements, and reduced power consumption on an ongoing basis since 2006. A hdmi port was added, as well as the ability to output in 1080p. There is a planned new chipset which will combine the gpu and cpu onto the same die, further improving reliability and efficiency.

As you can see, most everything has been redesigned, continually.
The only thing that...

I just hate it when people call MAG a flop.

The game is clearly not a flop.
7/10 is a solid score and the ps3 gamers should be proud.

Even on metacritic, the score is 75, which is still respectable.
The technical feat of getting 256 players onscreen and online at once is worthy of 7/10, by itself, I have said it before.

Sure, it's most definitely not 'AAA', nor 'AA', nor 'A' for that matter, but it's still solid and many gamers will ultimatel...

Hey take it easy, you two.

Mag has 256 fans online at once on n4g.
Mag has a 75% rating on metacritic.

Solid.
It certainly lived up to the hype.

Yes, you guys are likely right.
It probably is to do with destructible environments.

I was initially thinking it might have had something to do with that myself, however, it has happened before on ps3 that textures and detail, as well as objects, have been intentionally left out of the ps3 multiplats.

This is no secret.
A precedent has been set on ps3 in this regard numerous times.

So yeah, it wouldn't have been the first time on ps3, right? <...

I am glad that people disagree with me.

It shows that I have the intelligence and insight to think for myself and not be a mindless sheep, which is all too common here on n4g.

Ironically, on the day that all PS3 fanboys agree with me, THEN I know I have a problem.

LOL

SO, you supply a link with an unsupported opinion 'piece' by a journalist to counter the evidence of Sony's very own up-to-date financial report?

Dear oh dear.

See what I mean about people disseminating lies and untruths on the internet?

You may wish to consider researching Sony's own financial report, instead of blindly accepting a journalists 'piece' as truth.
Just saying.

I agree with JOY.

ALthough the 360 is getting its ass handed to it in Japan, it still has a 1+million install base which has outgrown the xbox1 install base in less time.

With each generation of consoles, it seems, MS is increasingly capturing the hearts and minds of the traditionally patriotic and homogeneous consumer mentality of the Japanese.

In a few years time, MS will likely gain consumer preference in Japan comparable with Sony and NIntendo.

5828d ago 8 agree16 disagreeView comment

the score of 6/10 is OBVIOUSLY too low.

SO what do gamers do?
They run to other reviews to get a better, more rounded idea of review scores in general.
Soon, savvy gamers work out that the game is MUCH better than 6/10.

All in all, such a score will create infamy surrounding Heavy rain, and, get this, INCREASE its notoriety.

More notoriety equals more exposure.
More exposure equals more sales.

What do you guys think?

@ nycredude.

Thanks for off-topic reply and personal insults.

I find the financial analysis of our common gaming hobby fascinating and interesting. I certainly do have a personal financial interest in such stocks, so this analysis is right up my alley!
In addition, other N4g users have commented that they find my comments insightful, useful, accurate and interesting.

I just like to talk facts and truths, because so often people on the internet lie....

Ok time for some nasty medicine.

Sony's NPS (including gaming) has reported a return to profitability.
Does this mean the ps3 is now back in the black?
No, probably not, the headline had it right.

@ bathyj & starchild

.. more to the point, we need to consider why the ps3 software sales are on track to be roughly the same in FY 09 as FY 08.
http://n4g.com/RedirectToOb...

If the 360 numbers need a 'rrod adjustment', then, indeed, what explains the excellent 360 software sales?

Further, what explains the relatively stagnant ps3 software sales...
