@ pirate thom

yeaaah... you seem to have missed the point entirely.

My point was that when the 360 is the lead platform, the other platform is gimped most of the time.

Yet when the ps3 is the lead platform, the other platform is hardly ever gimped, apart from about 3-4 cherrypicked examples, out of many more.

Thus, it is entirely incorrect and quite one-eyed to state:
Lead platform = gimped other platform.

Because, as a ge...

that we hear developers say this:

"Producer David Cox had this to say about the development: “PS3 is the lead platform but the game is identical on both formats”."

Yet when the 360 is the lead platform, the reverse is hardly ever true.
Weird huh?

@ neoraf

hmmm.. i agree with rbluetank about the high price.

Given that we can buy an arcade360 here for $198, that means we are paying an extra $301 for the bundle.

That equates to:
$50 for ME2
$100 for two controllers + headset.
$150 for HDD.

Is that good value?
MS has a chance here to give better value to gamers, imo.

The Commodore64 cannot be improved.
It's already perfect.

@ scoobysnacks

You are right.
I worded it wrong.

I should have said:
'The ps3 slim has ZERO ps2 backwards compatibility, while the 360 retains about 80% b/c''

Further, I should have said:
'The ps3 slim has reduced its usb 2.0 from 4 to two, while the 720 will incorporate usb 3.0'

Further, I should have said:
'The ps3 retains PS1 b/c, but who really cares?'

I know all this, because i own a slim.

I would suggest it is unclear whether the 360 is making a profit or not. The 360 is part of he EADD and it has not been stated to what extent the 360 has contributed to the EADD profits/losses.

However,
the evidence suggests that the 360 has made record peripheral and game sales, just now.
The evidence sugests that production costs are reduced, via improved manufacturing efficiency.
The evidence suggests that attach rates are at 8.8 and that RROD claims are on t...

@ zBlackktt

Huh?
How can the same be said?

FFXIII was:
- lead developed on ps3
- released first on ps3
- ported to 360, after maximising the ps3 power.

yet, going by reputable websites and logical analysis, the game runs as well, if not better on the 360.

Again, why would 360 gamers be bitter?
Your comment makes no sense.

Yeah, thanks for setting the record straight, cwmr!

I am a bit sick of articles like the above, blaming the 360 for the poor standard of the ps3.

Where were the articles blaming the ps3 for holding the 360 back when:

- ghostbusters ps3 held back the superior 360 version?
- Bayonetta ps3 held back the superior 360 version?
- Tekken6 ps3 held back the superior 360 version?

Of course these are just a smattering of examples - there a...

MS is really to be congratulated on this outstanding achievement.
During 2009, they had to contend with a PS3 pricedrop, PS3 slim, PS3 FFXIII and PS3 UC2.

Did they falter?
No. They did not.

In fact, the opposite is true.
MS's 360 has held its ground against what has been the year that Sony undisputably played its strongest trump cards.
Incredibly, 360 sales have held off what was to have been the triumphant return of the ps3.

Hype...

@ scoobysnacks

Nice damage control.
We already knew all of that, thanks for pointing out the obvious!

Honestly, scoobysnacks... I wouldn't go boasting about PS1 B/c.
Even modded xbox1s had PS1 emulation b/c!
Yep you read that right... I was playing ps1 games on a modded xbox1.
Why you even mention ps1 games on ps3 is beyond me and franly, embarrassing.

Tell me, scoobynacks, how much backward ps2 compatibility does the ps3 slim ha...

I honestly wonder why none of the above ps3 fanboys who assert that the ps3 version *must have* been gimped due to the 360 hardware never apply the same argument to AAA titles like Bayonetta?

If said argument had any merit, then wouldn't we be justified in saying that the 360 version of Bayonetta had to be dumbed down to approxmately match the PS3 version which just wasn't cutting it?

What about Ghostbusters?
Did the 360 version get held back to match the the p...

I just choked on my dinner when I read all the usual PS3 defenders chime in with their "this article is describing a ps3" comments.

Honestly guys....

Did you read the bit about backwards compatibility?
The ps3 has ZERO (that's right... ZERO) backwards compatibility, doesn't it?

How do you make the leap of logic between '100% b/c' 720 and the '0% b/c' PS3?

Nice self-ownage there!

@ steve30x

Not sure where you are coming from with that statement, dude.

Fact is, MS have been actively redesigning the mainboard and chipset of the 360 for the last 4 years.

In that time, 360 heat output has gone down and reliability has increased by many orders of magnitude.

MS is just about to release the 'Valhalla' chipset, as outlined in this excellent forum post:
