It's by no means a negative for consumers, but it is bad for Microsoft because they have said time and time again that the ONLY thing you need is Kinect to control ALL you entertainment setup. They are contradicting themselves.
Obviously having options is great for us gamers, and the remote is something a lot of people will use instead of kinect.
I don't see how developers will make use of Kinect either. They didn't use it the first time, why would they use it a second time. Even Sony have said that things like the touchpad are there so that developers find new ways, but know that it's just another choice, and only that. By having Kinect mandatory, it only causes that developers use time and resources to implement it, instead of focusing on better things.
If I was a betting man, I would bet that it is indeed coming, and sooner rather than later. I would expect an announcement no later than the end of this year. I know a lot of people would actually buy one without kinect (me included), so sales would definitely improve.
With all the 180s they have done, they only message they have sent is: "We're desperate!!"

I am a bit disappointed that a lot of features that were announced didn't make it to launch, and also some features that were in the PS3 are not int he PS4 either. I completely agree with you. Resolution and fps are something that not a lot of people can notice. I worked at a retail store and there were a lot of costumers that didn't even notice anything when showing a TV with 1080p resolution. They just said it looked pretty, and didn't even care.

Not every games has to be sandbox. This is supposed to be a cinematic experience like games such as Uncharted. If you are looking for open world games, go look for Infamous or GTA.

The Xbox hasn't released in all territories yet either isn't? Surely the PS4 seems like it will have the lead, but it will be a very close call this time. Everything will depend on games and developers support.
