Xbox is a division of Microsoft, not a separate company. Xbox hardware and its Home Screen is overseen by Sarah Bond. She reports to Phil Spencer. He reports to Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella. It’s all Microsoft.

Another win for Disney.

No. For the cost of just the graphics card for a PC, you can get an entire PlayStation. And you’ll spend more time playing games and less time downloading updates.

It’s not hard times for Microsoft. The $3T company is making record profits.

Who approves this PR bullshit from Microsoft? Game Pass Ultimate is going to be $240/year in 2025. For that kind of money, you could just buy all of Microsoft’s marquee AAA games in 2025. You’ll have to buy GTA VI separately anyway.

Hogwarts and Jedi Survivor, yes. Alan Wake 2, no.

when it goes on sale, sales will skyrocket

I see it differently. For the cost of a couple nights at a hotel, you can buy a PS5. For the cost of taking the family to a movie, you can buy a game. For the cost of taking the family out for dinner, you can buy a year’s worth of PS+ Extra. PS5 is an even cheaper entertainment option now than it was in 2020.

The Japanese stock market tanked and Nintendo is a Japanese company. Switch 2 will still have nice launch sales.

“Who's actually paying $240/yr for gamepass?”

To quote “Blazing Saddles”, “Morons!” In all seriousness, most people pay monthly and that monthly price will be $20 this fall.

“Tchia” is a fun and charming game for all ages (meaning your kids will love it). The power to become any object is unique to me.

Bullshit. Any decent frugal gamer or disc trader can do better than $240/year. Maybe a fifth of Xbox owners play Call of Duty. This PR is all leading up to Microsoft releasing games exclusively on Game Pass, requiring players to rent games forever. Any “news” outlet that supports that business model can eat shit and die.

“Bungie’s CEO locked his account just as the layoffs were announced this morning.”

Bungie’s CEO should have been the first one out the door.

Do I want this player to sue FromSoftware and win? Yes, of course. I would have bought “Elden Ring” a long time ago if it had accessibility features. As it is, I’m not sure I can grind through it, and there are plenty of other games to play. Would such a win hurt anyone else? Of course not. Do I think this player can win in the courts? No. Games are historically dependent on player skill, and FromSoftware games are advertised as having the most difficult gameplay of any game.

Microsoft is a $3T company. Comparing Sony to Microsoft is like comparing a family owned diner to McDonalds.

220 more people are losing their jobs at Bungie because Bungie’s leadership is bad at managing a game with the best gameplay on the market. The job losses should have started from the top about 10 years ago.

Unlike hardware, content and services has great margins, i.e. lots of profit potential. That’s why Microsoft’s CFO is ready to ditch Xbox hardware and sell games on PlayStation and Nintendo.
