For Microsoft, yes. They long ago said they considered the Series S to be their mid-cycle, low cost, slim model. This has been great for Sony. A $450 PS5 slim digital would be a tough sell if the competition wasn’t a Xbox Series S. Stupid, stupid Microsoft.
PlayStation is the number 1 selling console. Sony’s marketing strategy is working. Also consider that Microsoft is now a 3rd party publisher. They will go where the other 3rd party publishers go. I’m sure you’ll eventually see Halo in a PlayStation State of Play.
PC gaming is dead because Dell, HP, and Lenovo didn’t release any PC games. /s
Sounds like something a clanker would say.
Someone else is making Xbox handhelds now. They run Windows and you can download Xbox branded games. What consumers like is one low cost solution they can trust, and only Microsoft can do that for the Xbox brand.
You could go back in time and say that about a lot of graphics optiond. The hardware will improve and you’ll be glad ray-tracing is built into these games.
Sony cares an appropriate amount about PSVR2. The market just isn’t that big and with motion sickness and vision issues, it never will be. Nevertheless, more games keep coming to PSVR2 and other headsets that are treading water.
Sony dropped the price for their summer sales event.
This connects to X.com, a worse version of Twitter, so it isn’t clickbait, but the title and description are misleading. This shouldn’t have been approved.
Realistically, those weren’t free games. You could have used another cards rewards points or bought Sony products on sale and then used the savings to buy PlayStation games.
Xbox exclusives are over.
A year of Game Pass Ultimate costs $144 more than CoD:BlOps6. So no, this won’t lead to an influx of new Game Pass subscriptions from Call of Duty players.
Maybe the publisher is looking for Microsoft to buy the game for Game Pass.
Clearly the best time to buy an Xbox is 4 years into the console cycle when the console has a huge library of games and Microsoft releases the cheaper, slimmer version. They don’t have a huge library of games? They aren’t releasing a slimmer, cheaper model? Well, shit.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I think “Returnal” is perfectly rated. The restart mechanic is not the most fun for everyone.
Oof
The graphic for this targets Sony and my guess is that a lot folks want an exception for Nintendo. If Nintendo gave up on exclusives, its hardware would be subsumed by phones, PCs, and home consoles. It would be the end of Nintendo hardware. Do ya’ll want that?
$204/year for Game Pass Ultimate is a lot of potential profit for Microsoft. It’s $2B/year for every 10M subscribers. That pays for a lot of game development. The problem is that Microsoft also has to pay all those 3rd parties for their games. I think the future of Game Pass is fewer 3rd party games.
These numbers are difficult to parse without context. How do we compare nunbers played on Game Pass with actual sales of games like Skyrim and Cyberpunk 2077? A good start would be achievement data. If we know how many players kept playing past the first few missions, we would have a good idea of how many players considered the game a value addition for Game Pass.
“Why have hardware when you're on PC and every TV out there that connects to the Internet?”
Because a lot of people don’t have PCs, because a lot of people don’t have fast enough internet for streaming games, because a lot of people don’t have TVs that can handle streaming games, and because streaming games doesn’t work as well for multiplayer.
