This is the plan. Why sell a gane once for $70 when you can charge $180/year for each user for life? So what if the rest of the games industry goes bankrupt. Competition means lower priced and lower prices means less profit.

I haven’t bought any games since PS+ Launched. I did buy some DLC for Stellaris and one of my kids wanted Goat Simulator 3, but I’ll patiently work through backlog while I wait for more games to come to PS+.

On PlayStation, you can see trophy stats for ever game and that will tell which trophies are working as a reward for players and which are not. If a 0.1% of players have the platinum, the trophy isn’t working. Or out another way, when over 99.9% of players don’t bother with trophies, the game might as well not have any.

I mean, you could look up the Wikipedia page for antitrust.

It’s not just E3 2913 when Microsoft execs said the quiet part out loud. Microsoft put ads on the Xbox home screen. They bundled the Xbox app with every copy of Windows OS. And now they want to buy up all the games and have exclusives to sell Game Pass subscriptions. None of this is for the gamers. Meanwhile, Nintendo and Sony make games that people want to play, and people buy them.

Agree 100% with MrDead. Also going to point out that one good game does not repay the $7B that Microsoft spent on ZeniMax. Microsoft really needs these games to drive up subscriber numbers, and so far that hasn’t happened.

Supply meeting demand. Or did anyone really think PS5 owners were giving up their PlayStation libraries to switch to Xbox.

I didn’t read this article but assume the answer is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

After all the micro-transactions in Halo Infinite, this move by Microsoft isn’t surprising. Disappointing, but not surprising. Redfall is basically a f2p p2w game for Game Pass subscribers.

Is this Don Mattrick? Are you still playing on your 360 on submarines?

This exec really wants a new boss. Can’t blame anyone at Activision who wants this.

That would be funny except people would play Solitaire and Minesweeper.

Sony exclusives are consistently among the best games ever made. Quality games requires funding and patience. Meanwhile, Microsoft fired employees across all divisions including Bethesda. It’s like Bioware under EA. Games just need to be good enough.

Bungie is now owned by Sony. This is all Sony’s decision. I played through Beyond Light and Witch Queen for the free week last summer, and while Witch Queen is more interesting, Beyond Light adds the stasis ability. Neither is enough to play the “meta”. You’d need to pay for the season passes to win, er, get all the best gear to be competitive in Crucible and pass gear checks for the raids. Destiny should really just offer content for free like Fortnite and fund itself with cosmetics like For...

“Game Pass Freedom”

The freedom to make the games that MIcrosoft wants you to make to further their market share goals.

Already paying off? The deal cost $7.5B and Microsoft has to keep paying the developers salaries (Or at least the developers they didn’t already fire) and other development costs. Game Pass subscriptions growth has already started to level off. This will all pay off when Microsoft actually makes a profit off this deal.

Even a broken clock strikes right twice a day. Microsoft still needs Starfield to be good.

I actually didn’t like Sunset Overdrive. Gave up on it after the first defend the base mission. It’s no Spider-Man.

The big savior for Microsoft’s first party exclusives is “Starfield”, and I think we all expect to see some gameplay for a game that is supposed to release this year. Getting Cyberpunk 2077 feels.

You can run games at lower graphic settings on Xbox Series S, but do you want to? For $100 more, you can buy a PS5 digital that has better graphics and more hard drive space. When it comes to game consoles, less is not more. Save your pennies.
