Halo Infinite launched for Xbox One. It ran at Less than 30fps, so I skipped it.
Series S is getting a $350 version this fall. Microsoft doesn’t care if your game has comprises. They are all in on the Series S.
Microsoft and Sony can back away from last gen becasue they have new consoles to sell. But if there is money to made, publishers will find a way to make it work. Hogwarts Legacy was the number one game on PS4 last month in the US and Europe. Nerfed versions of games like No Man’s Sky are still getting releases on Nintendo Switch. Folks playing Overwatch and Fortnite on last gen consoles are still buying digital crap.
The difference is that Microsoft uses its Windows and Office business to fund Xbox and Sony uses its PlayStation business to fund the rest of Sony. So Microsoft can afford to give up game sales but Sony cannot. If game subscription gets big enough, it will overtake game sales in the same way movie streaming overtook Blu-Sales. Until then, Sony needs those game sales.
I’ve heard this since the awful launch of the Xbox One in 2013. That’s 10 years of Xbox on the cusp of a winning streak! I’ll believe it when I see it. My feeling is that a lot of the franchises that Microsoft bought will be sent out to die like all those franchises bought by EA. I just don’t think Microsoft is the kind of company that understands games enough to maintain a win streak. I hope I’m wrong,
I loved that iMac era. Never had one, though. Now I want a translucent bondi blue PS5.
FTC has the final say on Microsoft buying Activision/Blizzard. With the current injunction in place, doesn’t look good. I doubt Microsoft would go after CDPR. Microsoft wants games to take away from other platforms now, not in 6 years.
What’s painful is that Starfield was a third party game that was coming to PS5 until Microsoft bought Bethesda locked it to Xbox and Windows. To be real, though, Bethesda games have been disappointing for the last decade, so I wasn’t going to be excited about the launch of Starfield either way.
For $15, I can buy a whole game, which Overwatch 2 is not.
If Starfield is good, I plan on playing it over cloud. Is $15 for one month of GamePass Ultimate more profitable for Microsoft than $570 for a console and game? Probably not but we’ll see.
"Stray has brought in the highest number of players that have accessed that title over the first 12 months,“
What a great game. Quality over quantity.
Microsoft: “Subscribe to game pass and play a new release game every quarter."
Also Microsoft: "Where did you get the idea that games release every quarter? Games take years to make!"
I’ve seen apologist articles from Kotaku, Forbes, Screenrant, and now this. Why the hard push by Microsoft’s PR team? The Xbox Series X has 3 times as many teraflops as the Series S. Why can’t Series X owners dial down the resolution to dial up the framerate? I think the answer is that performance on Series X is mediocre and performance in Series S is terrible. Series X probably had dynamic resolution up to 4k and not actually 4K. Easy to have 4K for all of the still shots we’ve seen. I’m get...
Every year in the last decade was supposed to have been the year of Xbox dominance. Let me know in 2025 if 2024 was any different
Nice to know about “A Hat in Time”.
Making the S optional would kill the S. Microsoft wants to have its cake and eat it too. Most powerful console and cheapest console at the start of a generation. Like the days of the Wii360. Instead of dropping the S, Microsoft is raising its price and painting it black.
I hope that folks now understand why Square Enix sold all these studios for cheap. Paying developers is expensive. Glad to see Crystal Dynamix intact. “Guardians of the Galaxy” was a triumph.
Microsoft is a trillion dollar company that has been selling Xbox for more than 2 decades. If they can’t compete with Sony and Nintendo, it’s because they are doing it wrong,
The FTC is the only defense that consumers need. Microsoft and Activision are both U.S. companies. If it can’t go forward in the U.S., it can’t go forward,
Yes! In the last year I played Returnal, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ghost of Tsushima, Stray, Demon’s Souls, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, Humanity, Devil May Cry 5, Skyrim Special Edition, Turing Test, Chorys, Stellaris, Dishonored Death of the Outsider, Ghostwire Tokyo, Tetris Effect, The Pedestrian, Shadow Warrior 3, etc. Good times.
