For the consoles, the price hike is inevitable. Why not the US? Because the US dollar is so strong.
For GamePass, the price hike is b.s. The cost of storage and broadband only goes down. This is a profit move.
This is basically what happened with Halo 4. The game launched with seasonal, co-op missions that would continue the story. But the performance was terrible and the numbers weren’t there to support it. So 343 killed the seasonal content and went on to make a mediocre Halo 5.
It’s also how monopolies work. There’s a couple of laws in the U.S. that are against that.
That’s right. It’s not because Somy exclusives aren’t popular. It’s because Sony isn’t a trillion dollar company. It’s because Sony isn’t using money from OS and office software to leverage its games division. It’s because Sony isn’t so big that it can buy entire industries.
Railroad barons in 1890, “Oh ok, so buying the rail lines and stations are forbidden i guess. Is this a joke? Good luck in court 🤣”
A Halo refresh needs to be PS4 God of War big.
“The core gameplay loop of Marathon is as follows: … Spend XP on Updates”
This of course has huge pay-to-win potential. Spend that in game currency for XP boosters to get the edge over your competition!
Press X for doubt on those PS5 pro rumors. PS5 slim, yes, 100%. Maybe if a PS5 slim comes in at $350 and a pro takes the $500 slot, otherwise I can’t see the value of a slight faster mid cycle console.
“Microsoft is not a hardware company”
Microsoft has been selling Xbox for more than 20 years, which is longer than Meta has existed as a company. Microsoft sells HoloLens AR devices. Microsoft sells laptops, tablets, keyboards, and mice. Just sayin.’
Destiny was a big success out of the gate! It was a complete failure after the first lap. What really made Destiny a success in long run was Destiny 2 going free2play. Now Destiny is eyeing the finish line.
Xbox 360 is not similar to modern consoles. Xbox 360 ran on a multi-core PowerPC processor. Apple had to write Rosetta to make PowerPC apps run on Intel processors when they switched from PowerPC to Intel. It’s why Xbox 360 backwards compatibility is on a game-by-game basis. Funny enough, the Cell Processor is a custom PowerPC processor.
Review score inflation is an industry wide problem. To paraphrase Syndrome, when every game is 8/10 or better, none of them will be. It’s why I’m not too critical of outliers that hand out low scores.
The console war is good for clickbait but this is speculative b.s. The “fresh new angle from Microsoft” is just a list games that Microsoft already announced, We can come back to this topic after Microsoft releases those games, because as we know, good games are not built on hype.
As an old man who has played games since the days of Commodore, I can excuse a little jank. Those janky old games were the passion projects of a small team or often one person. Even today, we see indie games that are janky as hell and we love for them it. But Bethesda isn’t a small indie studio. Bethesda has hundreds of developers. Bethesda is part of a trillion dollar corporation. Bethesda games have no excuse for being janky.
Who would believe? Anyone! Phil has done a good job of turning Xbox around after the disastrous launch of the Xbox One, but he didn’t really do anything to turn Xbox into a RPG powerhouse. No Fable during the entire Xbox zone generation! All the Bethesda games were launching on Xbox anyway, regardless of whether Microsoft’s board approved spending $7.5B! The only decent decision for Phil was buying the developer of The Outer Worlds. I didn’t like the game but I expect The Outer Worlds 2 will ...
Sales don’t make a bad product better. Kinect had great sales. Microsoft said Kinect was the fastest selling peripheral in history! We saw how popular Kinect really was when Microsoft bundled Kinect 2.0 with the Xbox One. And we’ll see how popular Series S is when it clogs up the used hardware shelf at GameStop.
“The Xbox Series S might be a great deal for gamers”
It’s not. I’ve bought a lot of underpowered tech in my life because I thought cheaper was a better deal. It’s not a better deal when you can’t run the apps you want or the performance is frustrating. It’s not a better deal to have to upgrade sooner. Microsoft should do the Xbox community a solid and release a $400 Xbox Series X with no disc drive.
If Starfield is good? I plan on playing it for $15.
That’s like saying Apple won because they make more money from games than Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo combined. (I’m not saying Apple didn’t win. They might have won.)
It’s worse than than. PS+ Extra comes with PS+ Essential, which makes PS+ Extra comparable to Game Pass Ultimate. $100 per year versus $200 per year. Now tell me what’s the best deal in gaming,
