When Starfield launches, its sales will be the best ever for a new IP from Bethesda launched day one on Game Pass blah blah blah. None of this really matters for the console war, because as Microsoft stated in court, Xbox already lost the console war.

Why should it? The 10 year deal to keep CoD on PlayStation makes this a problem for the PS6 generation.

“Where are the shooters, Xbox”

Fortnite, PUBG, Overwatch 2, etc. are all the shooters on Xbox. Welcome to the future of gaming.

Microsoft is spending $60B to add Activision/Blizzard’s library of games to GamePass.

It’s almost like some kind of PR campaign from a trillion dollar company.

Sony knew there was a low likelihood of success. The days of strong antitrust enforcement are long gone. For better or worse, Sony’s response is to secure its own on-line multiplayer games. 10 years to replace Call of Duty on PlayStation. Seems doable.

So Games with Gold is ending. Games with Gold had gotten so bad, I doubt anyone will care. The 25 game catalog sounds a lot like the PlayStation Plus catalog that Sony launched with the PS5 and then sunset this last spring. For longtime subscribers, there were a lot of titles that had already been offered with PlayStation Plus. Will Microsoft’s catalog be fixed for the this generation or do they plan on rotating titles? The pricing is also a big “if”. Microsoft floated the idea of $10/month a...

Game Pass is the so called “best deal in gaming” but costs more than PS+ for a single person and orders of magnitude more for a household of gamers. All my kids can play all my games on-line on their accounts. I can even play with them on our second PS5, for no extra cost. Microsoft really should stop gouging families.

Hardly. Activision/Blizzard already contracted a few years worth of CoD on PlayStation. I doubt Satay Nadella wants Microsoft to lose $ in Call of Duty sales on top of the $70B already spent. Long term, Microsoft wants to lock players onto the Xbox platform and GamePass subscription. But we all know that won’t happens this gen. Meanwhile, Sony is spending more and more of its own on-line multiplayer games from the studios it bought. The console wars may be over but the wars of consolidation a...

“Especially on a platform like the Xbox, which has access to emulators for every system available.”

To be clear, Microsoft doesn’t want those emulators and keeps delisting those apps.

Uh, FYI, Activision/Blizzard games were already on Xbox.

Initial sales have little to do with a game’s quality. Look at Cyberpunk 2077. Hard for me to say which game had more advertising. I don’t see many ads.

This is the kind of low quality, highly emotional article you see it Reddit. The opposition party always criticizes everything. This isn’t news and never will be. This also isn’t relevant to gaming. Who approved this?

Not the same, worse.

Not just Germany. The PS Blog’s top download chart has Diablo IV no.1 for June in US and Europe. FFVI is second place. Nice to see some love for top down gameplay.

This article really couldn’t come up with 10 things but the general themes are:

1. Better graphics.

2. Better gameplay.

3. Fleshed out quests like Mass Effect and Witcher 3 and no more radiant fetch quests like Fallout 4.

4. An RPG system that doesn’t suck ass.

Cyberpunk 2077 didn’t even have better side quests and NPCs than the Witcher 3.

I see “Souls like” and all I think is how frustrating the controls will be and how little these games will respect my time. The “Souls like” mechanics in “Jedi Fallen Order” and “Returnal” left a bad taste in my mouth.

I think Pokémon Snap was the first game that made scanning animals a gameplay mechanic. But believe me when I say Starfield’s scanning mechanic is identical to No Man’s Sky. I’m a little worried that Bethesda as a company seems incapable of coming up with new ideas. How many quests will be fetch this or kill that?

(A fun feature is No Man’s Sky is naming everything if you are the first player to scan it. Name a planet “Fart World” and that’s what every other player wi...
