I think Mr Braben should do the world a favour and shut the hell up. I loved what he said here though :-
"Our last game, ThrillVille: Off The Rails, sold almost nothing on PC, but did sell on other platforms."
I would like to assure Mr Braben I did not pirate his attrociously average rollercoaster tycoon rip off, infact this is the first I have actually heard about it. Here is a clue for you Mr Braben when you do a game don't make it all cutesy and try to...
As I have said being a PC gamer this is first day ignore, I won't bother with mirror's edge at all since it will be infested with drm, restrict how I can use it and just generally screw my machine up. The fact it is delayed for the PC shows me where EA's priorities are as well, I will prioritise my finances accordingly ie away from EA.
I think EA need to just leave the PC format alone. They clearly don't want to support it so just go away. It will be no skin off my nose, Crysi...
we have already SEEN this in action steam users ran into a whole host of problems with bioshock and that used the SAME protection that Crysis Warhead now uses. So don't try and make it out that steam is completely immune to this rubbish because it isn't. The steam version of warhead is exactly the same as the retail disc version, it's just been rigged a little to work with steam that is all.
You do realise that the steam version of Warhead also incorporates this protection in it. I imagine it also incorporates the limited installs system too so whilst you may be able to download it from steam as many times as you like you will only be able to activate it 3 times after that the game won't work. Plus I think steam users are in an even worse situation because EA probably won't want to know about steam users and steam won't want to know about the problem either.
Basica...
The guy that wrote this is obviously an American and an idiot (not saying all Americans are idiots just saying this guy is). Not everyone is playing Crysis Warhead, infact the Europeans that bought their copy from steam aren't playing it nor will they till the 19th September (check the countdown on steams site). Last time I buy from steam I can tell you.
As for the "pirated" copy plurrrrrrrrease this isn't even a pirated copy it is a dvd clone which is pretty much u...
I cannot wait to play this game only 1 day to go and I keep eagerly checking my steam client to see if it has started downloading yet. Nice to see Crytek learning from their mistakes by improving MP, optimising the engine and embracing the delivery system of choice for PC gamers ie Steam.
As always the only downside to Warhead is the 5 hour long SP campaign but for £17 I believe that to be acceptable. However the graphics as always look stunning, it's hard to believe some ...
I believe the 50gb discs are probably more expensive than the 25gb discs ie ID would have to pay Sony more money to use a 50gb disc than they would to use a 25gb disc (which is technically the same thing as them having to pay MS more money to use 3 discs instead of 2). So I think it is only fair he uses the 25gb disc statment (not that any of this is logical).
The PC you can't really bring it into things, since whilst it does use DVD media because there are no royalties to imp...
I believe MS gets a fee per disc so a game shipping on 2 discs makes MS less royalty fee's than a game shipping on 3 discs. What ID want is to ship their game on 3 discs but only pay a 2 disc royalty fee, thus MS would lose out. That's what this is all about nothing but greed from BOTH sides.
I cannot believe you guys. You are so falling for this rubbish from ID, it is obvious why ID is spouting this. They want concessions from MS over royalty fees. There is absolutely NO technical reason why they can't ship the extra levels on the PC and PS3 and leave the levels out of the 360 version if MS doesn't give in. But ohhhhh no that isn't possible is it Mr Carmack.
But like usual everyone leaps and goes blah blah system is best blah blah system sucks. You are being u...
Meh after the way EA has been treating the PC format this is no surprise. I was initially interested in the title but the fact they will cripple it with DRM and now this delay means I will skip it.
Eagerly awaiting this title. Already purchased it and just watiting for steam to unlock the flood gates so I can grab it. It's a bit dissappointing that the SP campaign is only 5 hours long, but then COD 4 suffered that and it is twice the price.
If you are a PC gamer and you have a decent PC and you don't buy this game then you really should be totally ashamed of yourself. I can understand people giving Crysis a miss (unoptimised tech demo) but ther really is no reason to giv...
I think the author of that story was stating both GPU's are Directx 9 era gpu's ie neither is a directx 10 gpu. He was not specifically saying that the PS3 uses directx9 but it does use a directx9 era GPU just like the 360 does.
Is it my imagination or is the software industry really starting to take the proverbial urine. This has to rank up there with selling your mother on the street corner for a few bucks. Seriously it is getting moronic, here's an idea why don't they sell an edition where the game has been totally completed for you.
Oh well I suppose there are enough idiots out there that will go "oh goody goody, mummy can I have some money so I can be uber at COD 700 please".
Nice dream but it won't happen anytime soon. When a game appears on steam the chances of me buying it shoot up 100%. Unfortunately software companies seem to be stuck in the past or they want to try and extort more money out of people wanting to digitally download (EA store anyone) rather than offer them a discount for no shipping/cd duplication fee's.
I still don't think the time is here yet for Steam exclusivity though, many people want the outdated physical media and manuals...
Personally I think this is a fantastic idea. However I am a bit skeptical, I cannot see a lot of game developers going along with this.
A lot of publishers rely on hype to sell games of little substance so if they allow people to rent before they buy it will kill sales for their over-hyped junk (not looking particularly in EA or Spore's direction).
What would be even better is if you rent the game and then decide to buy it you get the rental price taken off the pu...
Already paid for my copy and just waiting for steam to start pre-downloading the files. Thank god Crytek showed a bit of common sense this time and released their game on Steam this time around. One of the key things about piracy is the ability to download the game with ease, steam negates that advantage and gives those PC gamers that want it a LEGAL way to do the same thing (EA's rip off store doesn't count). Either way I am so looking forward to warhead and the mutliplayer component Crys...
Yeah I have to concur these screenshots were released during Leipzig in August. So they are far from new.
Some people on this site are clearly missing the point about this DRM. I remember before the PS3 was due to launch a rumour spread that Sony were going to make it so each game you bought got locked to the PS3 thus ensuring you couldn't sell your game second hand. Naturally there was a mass revolt about it and much lighting of burning torches (and quite rightly so). Thankfully it turned out to be nothing but a scare mongering rumour.
Now let's look at this DRM, it uses Securo...
Yep agree with you there. Already got my pre-order purchase of Warhead over steam. Just waiting now for the release date and hey presto will be gaming without even leaving the house to buy a copy.
I really don't know why Crytek didn't use Steam in the first place with the original Crysis, it's a mistake that probably cost them a lot of sales. However thankfully they have learnt the error of their ways and released both on steam now. That kind of behaviour deserves to be rewar...
Lucasarts name once stood for quality, now it's just a joke. Oh well no big loss they will just keep shovelling stuff out and those that know no better will keep buying it.
