Clearly Rockstar are considering it. They've been very vague about it when they could have just outright ruled out the possibility. Understandably they don't want the promise of a next gen version to hamper current gen sales, but they could increase their early current gen sales by securing all the fence sitters who are waiting for a 'possible' next gen version. All they have to do is give a definitive statement.
I agree with all of the above comments. The upcoming entries of some of Nintendo's biggest franchises are side-scrollers, semi-3D platformers and remakes, and I'm not okay paying full price for that.
A proper Zelda U, Mario Kart 8 and 'X' will be worth owning the system for.
I think 'The Evil Within' will be the game that returns to Resident Evil's roots, since it is being made by Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resi Evil. The footage shown of the game so far supports this theory.

In Australia, SNES games did cost $100, sometimes more! People complaining about $60 have no idea how good they have it.
Don't underestimate the importance of improved framerates and eliminated screen tear. Not to mention no more awkward sub-hd resolutions.

Best chance of that would be some kind of spiritual successor made by Platinum Games. In fact, their upcoming Wii U game 'The Wonderful 101' features a main character that looks a lot like Joe.

Agreed, the reason I love old Final Fantasy games has nothing to do with their battle systems.
Wii remote support confirmed. Precision aiming together with free online multiplayer COULD make this the definitive console version. The Wii U should be able to handle the graphics.
For a HD remaster, it is definitely taking a long time. I don't think the original game even took this long to make.

Annus, a game can run in 1280x1080 and still fill the screen without looking stretched. Gran Turismo 5 did it.
