Mismanagement sure, but time constraints? Having a game in development for this long without a release date deadline isn't what I imagine as being 'constrained'.
Also, I don't think FF fans have unrealistic expectations for this game. All they want is the return of features that made the older games great, which this looks to be delivering.
I'm considering getting a Surface Pro soon, so I'm hoping it can handle some gaming; not necessary the latest releases, but some of the classics from the last decade or so, and emulators. I hear it runs South Park Stick of Truth well.
I don't think it's 100% confirmed to be native 1080p yet. The truth will probably be revealed by the usual suspects like Digital Foundry, NeoGAF etc.

Resolution has only become an issue because the PS4 is the only console that was designed well enough to consistently achieve a resolution that we've been promised for years, and should have gone without saying this gen.

I get the impression the devs wished they could go further with it. It's sometimes a bit weird seeing PS2 animations clashing with PS3 quality textures.
I was under the impression that Galaxy and 3D World represented the sort of direction Nintendo plans to take with Mario henceforth - ditching the SM64/Sunshine collectathon style of level design for more focused platforming based gameplay, like how it was in the SNES era.
I own the PS3 physical copy, but used the online code on my friend's PS3, under my friends account. I hope I will still qualify for a discount.

It's totally reasonable to expect native 1080p from this gen of consoles. PC has done it for ages and is moving toward 4K. Most HDTV's are 1080p, and it just looks nicer when you're able to have the game's native resolution match the TV's resolution.
I'm sorry it's so hard for people to understand that gameplay quality is entirely up to the talent of the developer, not the resolution.
Are you guys saying that Tropical Freeze is overall better than Returns? I haven't played either properly but it's hard to get a clear verdict from the reviews.
