Linear, open world, metroidvania... They're just different types of experiences, not necessarily worse or better than one another.
Just to correct you, the only KF games to hit outside of Japan are 2 and 4 in Europe and 2,3 + 4 in US.
The first game was Japan only, so when KF2 (JP) hit they simply named it King's Field. When KF3 (JP) came along it was called King's Field 2 in USA, and was not released in Europe.
I think KF4 is one of the most underrated PS2 games, and now that From Software have made a name for themselves they could well gain support from all the Souls fans. I l...
As much as I adore the Souls games, I'd like to see them do something a little different for their next game. Maybe... King's Field 5? Please? :D
Let's say they introduced an easy mode where enemies did half damage, you don't lose souls. There would STILL be gamers who find it too difficult. So you try again, make an easier mode, enemies do 1/4 damage, there's a map option... And still, some people find it too difficult. My question is, what would you say to those players?
And like equal_youth pointed out, there are many aspects of the games, some integral to the design, that make them difficult. Should Fro...
I completely agree with this post. Saying "just an option, everyone wins" negates the fact that dropping the difficulty would be all too tempting throughout the entire experience. What about a map as 'just an option' or the ability to keep all your souls upon death as 'just an option?' People would just take the easy way out.
Demon's Souls was unlike anything I'd ever played, and I really struggled through some sections. If I'd had the op...
I'm fine with people wanting an easy mode because they feel intimidated by the game, but if your argument is "they should do it because more sales/more money" then just f*** off. If all developers blindsided their artistic visions in the hopes of making the most money possible we'd never have gotten some of the greatest masterpieces in gaming history. Ico, Deus Ex, Okami, Demon's Souls, Gregory Horror Show, Killer 7, Danganronpa, Persona 3/4, Dark Chronicle... The list g...
One of the things that many From fans like is that there's no safety net with their games. There's no option to lower the difficulty for a tough boss, no option to view the game map, no option to view a list of objectives, no option to get hold of powerful weapons quickly and easily etc.
Merely having such options, even if the player didn't plan on using them, would just provide endless temptation to players as they explore the world. If you failed at a boss 5 ti...
The Last of Us 2 is a given, and while I would love to see a Jak 4, I think it's unlikely.
I would welcome a new IP in a different genre, just to see what they can do. Maybe an adventure game with puzzles? Some kind of globe-trotting detective game? Whatever they do, I'll be waiting with bated breath. ND are truly a top tier development studio.
Can't wait either. :D
I bought Crimes and Punishments on a whim and absolutely loved it. From the sounds of it, Devil's Daughter could be even better.
Me too! :)
I find it interesting that in he interview they stated that Danganronpa and Zero Escape have had a big impact on visual novel popularity. I played Virtue's Last Reward and Danganronpa on a whim and they blew me away. Now I've gotten through Steins; Gate and am nearly finished with Code Realize, and I can finally see how good this genre can be if executed right.
I'm hoping Steins; Gate Zero, Root Letter and others come over to the west...
I've been doing the exact same thing. I find games are often much better if you're actually uncovering stuff as opposed to being like "oh, now I get to do that bit from the trailer."
Mine will likely end up being one of the following:
- Dark Souls 3
- Uncharted 4
- The Last Guardian
- Persona 5
With that said, there are tons of other games that may surprise me!
"Tracer isn't the sort of woman who would look behind her while leaning slightly! Totally inappropriate!"
"Oh wait, now she's standing like a wonky flamingo. Totally fits her character! Awesome!"
Next we'll have to ban alternate costumes in fighting games. Dressing Marduk up in a pink vest and giving him long, flowing purple hair is totally against his character. Regardless of it being optional, it should be banned!
I feel like these people are so entrenched in their psychobabble narrative they could play a racing game and complain there aren't any female cars.
These people are, by dictionary definition, bigoted sexists.
I'll buy what I want, thanks.
They seemed to drop traditional turn based combat and make it more action-oriented to bring in the masses and appeal to more people but if anything the reverse happened.
I get what this article is saying. When game publishers themselves use metacritic scores to determine if devs get a bonus, that's some bull, especially with ridiculous demands like 'get a 90 or above, or else!' as was with Bungie and Destiny.
Wait another 2 months.
Ask the same question.
I think we know what the answer will be...
Pre-cancel ordered.
There are many aspects of the games, some integral to the design, that make them difficult, not just 'enemy damage' that some people incessantly go on about. Should From Software change EVERYTHING so more people will like it?
When I first played Demon's Souls, I struggled. If I'd had options for an easier difficulty, to keep my souls, for a map... I'd have taken them. As such, I would have completely ruined the experience for myself. But without those saf...
