This is good news for Sony, but I wouldn’t get crazy. I’ve been watching the stock quantity on Amazon and it looks to me like they sold about 500 units. That’s nice, but nothing to get crazy about, especially given the weekly sales numbers have Xbox 360 doubling up on Sony PS3 every week.

500 units at $500 each would make any product a hot seller on Amazon.

Also not that there were 3 HD DVD players (and no standalone Blu-ray players) in the “Movers & Shakers...

The last 3 weeks, Xbox 360 has outsold PS3 by more than double. Let's wait until Sony can at least win one week before we jump to any conclusions!

Not so fast. This is a good start for Sony, but I'd hardly call it a turnaround yet. They have to beat 360 in the weekly sales totals before we can start saying that...

It's your day in the sun PS3 fans, I won't try to ruin it for you! This is the first time I looked at Amazon's "Movers & Shakers" list and yes, PS3 is number one.

For us XBOX / HD DVD fans, I was suprised to see this on the "Movers & Shakers" list as well:

Toshiba A2 HD DVD: +51%
Toshiba A20 HD DVD: +46%
Toshiba XA2 HD DVD: +53%

No standalone Blu-ray players were on the list..

OK, I'll sush n...

Nah.. this is a one day bump because they are the first to drop their price. Let's see what happens after MS lowers the 360 price on Tuesday.

Microsoft really put themselves in a good position. They can lower their price if they need to (because they don’t lose money on every console sold). They have Halo 3 coming up (will be huge). They no longer have to worry about GTA pulling everyone to PS3 (like it did for PS2). They’ve got a steady stream of exclusives lined up for the rest of the year. They have 3 SKUs to meet each market (core, premium, elite). Xbox live is a great success. The HD DVD drive is their #1 selling accessory. ...

I will admit it. I spend much more time with my 360 and I enjoy HD DVD much more than Blu-ray. If that makes me a fan boy, then so be it.

Also know that I paid more than double for my PS3 to get it on day one. I thought Resistance looked better than Gears of War and I beat both. But since then, my PS3 has been collecting dust. Now, I'm learning the better version of '300' is on HD DVD and the better version of Madden will be on 360.

So, call me a fanboy if you wa...

Let’s face it, the PS3 is a powerful console. But maybe they made a mistake by trying to cram everything into the box. I mean, I have a PS3 and I don’t use the Blu-ray player, Wi-Fi or SD card slots. I only use it for gaming. I also have a 360. I did buy the HD DVD drive when I was ready, but I don’t need the Wi-Fi and I’m glad I didn’t have to pay for it.

I know Sony was trying to stuff every possible thing in there (Game machine, Blu-ray player, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, SD card read...

The more RAM you have, the more data you can hold. Like Oblivion for example, the whole outside world is too big to fit into the RAM, so it will load from disc periodically. As game worlds get bigger and bigger, the more RAM the better.

You mean don't drive a car while playing a video game? And we call this a free country? And I can't fax either? What the heck, I just had a new fax machine put in my dashboard!

What laws are next? “Don’t shower while driving a car”, “Don’t use a treadmill while driving a truck” or “Don’t play DDR while on a scooter?”

I hate to admit it, but the terrorists have won…

The only thing that could keep them from going 10 years with the PS3 is the RAM. 256 MB system & 256 video card (512 MB combined) is a little on the low side. They should have included a RAM port like on the old N64.

Can you imagine what RAM will be like in 10 years? My PC has 4 GB already and you can't buy a PC with less than 512 MB today.

Other than that, I would agree that 10 years is possible, but not likely as the competitors will have new machines way b...

I thought the 80 GB model was supposed to be an upgrade, not a downgrade? Is this a joke?

Considering the 360 is still doubling up PS3 in hardware sales, this move makes a lot of sense. Still, I can’t help but think a $199 core system would have opened the door a lot of gamers. We’ll see if it’s true, this is just an analyst’s prediction, it could be a greater price cut or it could be there is no price cut at all.

But here is a Question: if the Premium is $350 and the Elite is $400 (with an extra 100 GB of hard drive space & an HDMI port), who on earth would by ...

Plain and simple: You get 5 free movies with both a HD DVD or Blu-ray player purchase. The picture & sound quality is the same. But, you can get an HD DVD player for $250 on Amazon (with free shipping) or you can get Blu-ray for $500.

You save $250 and you get the better versions of '300' & Blood Diamond (interactive features are on HD DVD, but not the Blu-ray version). That, my friend, is a better value!

Both my PS3 & Toshiba HD DVD player are plugged into my receiver via HDMI. I noticed that when I play a Blu-ray movie on my PS3, the receiver says “Multi-channel – 48 kHz” (consistent with the specs on the back of the movie’s box). But, when I play any HD DVD movie, it says “Multi-channel – 96 kHz.” I’m not sure what this means in terms of sound, they both sound great, but I am getting a higher frequency on HD DVD.

What else would we expect on this site? Yet another positive Blu-ray review and a negative HD DVD review. Unless you have a HDMI capable receiver, the xbox drive & PS3 have the exact same video and audio capabilities (lossless audio can only be passed via HDMI, it cannot be passed on optical). If you do have an HDMI receiver, you’re better off getting the Toshiba A2 (which does have lossless audio), which is only $250 on Amazon right now (all three Toshiba HD DVD models are selling better...

Marks & Spencers is selling PS3 and not Xbox 360. Actually, selling is the wrong word, they carry PS3, nobody's buying them, but yeah, they do carry them.

You are wrong. The latest software numbers are 65% to 45% and the gap is closing each day.

I never said Blu-ray wasn't winning in software sales. But I am saying the only reason for that is PS3. But don't worry, HD DVD has an answer to PS3. Let's just see what happens the 2nd half of this year.

Both HD DVD & Blu-ray have the exact same sound capabilities. I have both a PS3 and HD DVD player are they are both hooked into the same ONKYO HDMI receiver that just came out last month. All PS3 movies are topping out at 48 kHz and all HD DVD movies are playing at double that rate, 96 kHz. Don’t worry about the back of the box, they both have lossless audio and the HD DVD is actually coming out at a higher rate.

They are competing with 2 other companies for just 30% of the market. It's basic marketing, you usually try to sell to the biggest market.
