HD DVD players continue to sell better than Blu-ray players. Look at this survey taken last month:
----------------------
In our latest consumer electronics survey, conducted in June, we polled 3,881 Alliance members on their electronic gadgets and home entertainment shopping, including their store preferences.
High-Def DVDs -- In the high-def DVD war, Toshiba's HD-DVD player remained the market share leader with 7% over the Sony Blu-Ray with 1%.

HD DVD Players continue to sell better than Blu-ray players.
Here’s a snippet from IGN’s perfect review of ‘300’ on HD DVD:
"This is one incredibly strong and distinctly Spartan collection of extras and well worth following into battle.
Score: 10 out of 10
We could easily use 300 words to describe this gorgeous, benchmark HD DVD, but we'll only use three in conclusion: Buy…It…Now…"
Actually, I saw 2 Toshiba TV spots last week, one on ESPN and one on the Discovery Channel. Also, many are reporting seeing an Ad before the newest Harry Potter movie, on the big screen.
Summer is typically slow for electronics, they are saving the big push for the 4th quarter, which makes sense.
A) With King Kong, it's actually 6 free movies
B) Includes a $30 remote
C) Assuming the 6 movies cost $20 on Amazon: $179 - (6 * $20) = $59
Finally, you don't win a format war in July! You win it in the 3rd & 4th quarter. A move like this makes it eaiser to do a deeper price cut later in the year.
Let's see what happens this holiday season. HD DVD has a few tricks up their sleeve as well. Let's not forget that a $500 Blu-ray player is still out of the budget of the average American family.
This is good news for Blu-ray, I'm not going to deny that, but it is not the final verdict. Let's wait until after the new year.
Look at software, Xbox killed PS3:
Xbox: 723,703
PS3: 254,069
The money is in software, not hardware.
See, even thieves are choosing Blu-ray. I'm glad I'm on the other side, I don't want to be associated with thieves.
Old news - rehashed over and over again...
I think this is a good move, I won't have time for this many games as it is.
I have about 6 or 7 PSP movies. I thought they were really cool in the beginning, but since I got a video iPod, I prefer to bring that to watch movies. I think movie downloads are the way to go for PSP, it does have a bigger screen than my iPod.
BTW: this guy is a tool. He’s the same fool who gave his “HD DVD will be dead in months” prediction and now look at him, he’s defending the UMD which has been even less successful than HD DVD!
Let's be honest, the way PS3 was slumping, sales only had one direction to go!
Yet, another failed Sony format!
Super Audio CD (SACD) was developed by Sony and Philips Electronics.
PS3 is so important to the Blu-ray / HD DVD fight that if Sony were to offer an alternative to Blu-ray discs on PS3, the entire Blu-ray format may collapse. If there is no PS3 right now, the format war is over and HD DVD is the new standard. Any decline in the number of PS3 users buying movies on Blu-ray is a big problem for Sony, because the standalone Blu-ray players are not selling.
On the flip side, Xbox is just a small part of the HD DVD strategy at the moment and by only ...
What about PSP and all of the dead pixels? What about PS2 and the disc errors? This stuff happens. Sometimes you can't forsee some of the issues that will come up and you deal with it by offering a better warranty.
Maybe I’m just lucky, but I’ve never had 1 problem with either of my two Xbox 360s, nor have any of my friends who own the system. I wonder if this guy is putting them on a heating pad or something?
Who knows, PS3 might have a heating problem too, but most people who own them don’t have it on very often. There is nothing to play on it!
Microsoft knew it was headed for trouble with this warranty and they were working on a solution. Why would they spend millions on marketing the 360 when they knew of this problem? It doesn’t make sense, so they didn’t.
Now they’ve got this problem fixed, they have the best software lineup for the rest of the year, they were able to charge the warranty costs into the last fiscal year and everything is set for a price drop and aggressive marketing campaign.
You don...
Sony and Toshiba are locked in a huge battle for High Def, yet Sony provides batteries for Toshiba’s laptops.
I might need a demo before purchase, or a good review score at least. I wonder why there is no PS3 version?
This was actually one of the PS3 games I was going to buy, until I played the demo. The screen flicker was annoying and the gameplay was nothing more than button mashing.
Maybe they'll release another demo when the game is done? This demo looked like an early build of the game.
