Let’s put it into perspective: As big as we think videogames are (and they are big), the sales of game consoles are dwarfed by regular DVD player sales. I don’t know about you, but I have 4 TVs in my house and every one has a DVD player attached.
Someone who buys an HD DVD player does it for one thing: to hook it up to an HDTV and watch movies. With PS3, statistics show that a large percentage of them are not even hooked up to HDTVs and the attach rate is 1 movie sold per syste...
Did you notice how standalone Blu-ray player sales are dropping like crazy? The $500 BD-300 isn't even on the eProduct wars list anymore! Why would someone buy that when a PS3 is the same price? Sony is competing against itself!
Blu-ray is getting killed in standalone players, getting only 30% of the US market, HD DVD has the rest. In Europe, HD DVD has captured a whopping 74% of the market! (link below)
I’m not going to play dumb, I know Blu-ray is outselling HD...
I noticed sales have leveled off on Amazon, the stock has been the same for hours now. Within a week, I predict sales will return to their normal, dismal, numbers..
I couldn't get over how smooth this game was, is it 60fps?
A must buy for me!
I own a PS3 and 2 Xbox 360s (Premium & Elite) and there is little doubt in my mind that the PS3 is more powerful. But.. the development community has had more time with the 360 and right now, they are making games that are as good, if not better, for the 360. This will change, probably next year, as the developers get going on PS3.
You don’t need to be the most powerful to win the console war, but you do have to offer the best value.
I seem to remember a line of people at EB games exchanging their PSP when it came out, because so many had dead pixels.
Look, it happens, MS is fixing it, let's move on!!!
Wow, launching a website to promote Blu-ray. There are hundreds of website that promote Blu-ray and there are hundreds of sites that promote HD DVD.
Does this site also contain a link were people who bought a Blu-ray player before November 07 can return their obsolete player, because it’s not up to spec and not upgradeable. You can’t add a Ethernet port with a firmware update!
A new Frogger?
This was the only innovative thing they showed, everything else we already knew about. Even the live arcade games were blah…
Price Cut Planned- No Date Given???
OK, why would you say that? Who's going to rush out to buy one now? Once you mention a price cut, do it! I swear, what is up with Microsoft? Are they trying to lose this console war?
It looked good to me! A few bugs, but it's not done yet. I guess we'll see...
Here I am thinking we’re getting a new Xbox SKU, possibly with built in HD DVD, and Peter More pulls out this mess?
I would not stick this thing in my slick home entertainment setup, my Elite will do just fine.
Note to MS: this thing is embarrassingly ugly. How about just a Halo faceplate and we’ll all forget about this joke?
Cut the price now and reep the rewards on software sales for years to come.
or
Don't cut the price now, make a few extra bucks today, but let Sony get right back into this thing.
I just don't get it...
But not price cut? No special Announcements? As a 360 fan, disappointing is the word I use. Not for what they did do, but for what they didn’t do.
But the show was a huge disappointment. Right after it was done, I said to myself: “Microsoft just let Sony back in this thing”… terrible…
This great news for Xbox & PS3 owners, I mean ... what? It's not coming to PS3? Oh, so sorry..
This is amazing, back & forward buttons... what's next, a refresh button...
Xbox 360 is doubling the PS3 sales and has been on a weekly basis for some time now. When Sony starts selling more units, then I'll be concerned.
Xbox 360 has the best games coming out, the best online gaming service, the most developer support, the most accessories and 3 hardware packages to meet every budget.
Sony fanboys are in “la la land” since yesterday, but the truth remains that Xbox is giving PS3 a beat-down in every way, especially in sales.
If you count PS3, there are about 5 Blu-ray players per 1 HD DVD player (in the US). Yet, Blu-ray is not leading 5:1 in movie sales, they are only leading 2:1. This tells us that most PS3 owners are not buying movies, but using it just for games.
