I don't think this has any impact on the format war. No one is spending hundreads on a High Def player to put a video of a log burning on their TV.
What about movies sales? HD DVD +20% and Blu-ray -5% ?
That has nothing to do with PS3 hardware.
This is good for HD DVD, but it doesn't include the overall picture. This basically means that between Q1 and Q2, HD DVD grew its market share and Blu-ray lost some market share.
Still, HD DVD must find a way to offset PS3 sales, which are currently playing a big factor in the next-gen DVD race.

They only outsold Xbox 360 by 6000 units. The most PS3's I've ever seen in a target is 2. A sellout should be expected.
If PS3 outsells the 360 by only 6000 units every month, it will take them over 10 years to catch up. Hey, maybe that's the 10 year plan they keep talking about!
All this bad news about Microsoft and all of this great Sony press and all PS3 can do is a few thousand more units. Oh boy, this is not good for Sony!
Anyone that includes the phrase “HD DVD is dead” (and there are many) in a reply completely shows their ignorance.
HD DVD is gaining market share (away from Blu-ray, I might add) and there are new movies being announced almost daily. Toshiba is just starting to put HD DVD in laptops and there are more surprises on the way.
I’m not saying HD DVD will win or that Blu-ray will lose, but HD DVD is gaining momentum quickly.
It’s called: “I didn’t do it, but if you pay me money, I’ll tell you details that only the real killer would know…”
I'd like to see how many of us would do in front of a crowd of that size and broadcast across country.
It’s much easier to criticize from afar than to get up there and do it yourself.

As an HD DVD fan, I was level headed when I read this news. It does not mean that HD DVD is winning or Blu-ray is losing. PS3 is a huge factor in the next-gen format war right now, will it be in the future? Who knows…
But what this data does tell us is that HD DVD did a good job at expanding its business in the 2nd Quarter and Blu-ray sales were slightly down. Frankly, HD DVD needed this because they got a pretty good whooping in the first quarter.
We’ll see… Hop...

This is just Wal-mart.com, for all we know they might only have had a couple hundread of these units. I was at the store this evening and they had 2 in stock (at lease, 2 that I could see).
This is better than not selling out, don't get me wrong, but the headline makes it seem like the entire chain is sold out.
