I like Peter Moore, I hope he's not taking the fall for the warranty issues. We’ll see, we should have an official statement soon I hope.
Because they realize there are limits to a market that will support $600 phones. You can sell $249 phones to 10 times as many people.
I own two 360s, over 60 games and never had one scratch.
HD DVD has a larger market share in high-def movies than PS3 has in video games. For those that say HD DVD is dead, then you must really believe that PS3 is dead, given that it’s performing worse in its market.
I disagree with your disagreements!
A) Without PS3, Blu-ray is already obsolete
B) The xbox drive is selling well (MS #1 selling accessory)
C) Same as B
D) HD DVD can go much lower than Blu-ray
E) Toshiba sell 10 million laptops a year. Sony Vaio sells only a fraction.
F) Bad press for Blu-ray
G) This is the summer High-def blockbuster. Better on HD DVD
H) Warner Bros home entertainment VP thinks this is true
The dominos will start to fall in HD DVD’s favor starting next month:
A) Xbox price cut = lower PS3 sales = less Blu-ray owners
B) Xbox price cut = more Xbox owners = more HD DVD add on sales
C) Halo 3 = more Xbox owners = more HD DVD add on sales
D) Another Toshiba HD DVD price cut is very likely
E) Back to school = Toshiba Laptop sales = more HD DVD owners
F) November = New Blu-ray spec = obsolete players (not PS3) = frustrated owners
...
If Sony is expecting to tap into the large PS2 ownership base and get them to upgrade to PS3, how can they release a console without backwards compatibility? And isn’t backwards compatibility done by software now that physically costs them nothing? Going from a 60 to a forty GB drive would save Sony $2 to $3 at the most, how would they make up the rest of the $200 price discount?
Too many questions and contradictions.
A) Blu-ray movies are outselling HD DVD 2:1, not 3:1
B) Counting PS3, there are five Blu-ray players for every one HD DVD player. But why isn't the software ratio 5:1? It's only 2:1, not 5:1. This proves him right! Despite having a much smaller base, standalone player buyers buy a lot more movies.
They launched the BD 300 $100 less than they wanted. They copied Toshiba and started a 5 free movie promotion. The dropped the PS3 price. Why? Because they are walking away with this thing? Blu-ray knows that HD DVD is a real contender and they are doing all they can to compete (HD DVD has 70% standalone sales in the US & 74% standalone sales in Europe). Even Warner Bros chimed in saying it like HD DVD’s strategy better.
Even a top Sony exec was recently quoted as saying H...
Taking a swipe at the Blu-ray stats that are bolstered by the number of PS3's sold, Steve Nickerson, senior vice president, high definition media at Warner Bros sates:
"These figures are especially important because the standalone player market is by far the biggest driver of movie sales in the long-term."
"This is simply because those who buy a standalone player are interested solely in buying and watching movies and other video content, whereas...
According to the Blu-ray Disc Association European Promotions Committee, it says that this claim is “misleading and misrepresentative” of the real and clear market trends in Europe, before admitting that HD DVD “does have sales advantage for several reasons”.

Ken Graffeo, executive vice president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment, says the studio currently has no plans to support Blu-ray.

I saw a more complete article than this one and the Universal Studios guy said they have no intention of supporting Blu-ray at the moment.
Still, HD DVD needs to have a killer 2nd half of 2007 or it could be in trouble. We’ll see.
I have it pre-ordered and I’m just waiting for September. I played the Beta and I can’t wait to get back!
No, I'm still using my iPod after years, but I stopped playing Wii after a few weeks...
Why do PS3 fans keep saying this? HD DVD has 70% of the standalone player market and 34% of high-def movie sales. That is not "dead" by any stretch of the imagination.
If these numbers mean a product is "dead" then PS3 is "dead". Compared to 360 & Wii, PS3 has worse sales percentages in the games market than HD DVD does in the movie market.
Until I played the demo.. I went out and bought it and I can't put it down! Good fun!
This is a special promotion for those that attend the show only, this is not the new price in retail or anything.
My sources tell me that HD DVD is doing really well at the $299 price point and while we are likely to see $199 before the holidays, $99 is unlikely for a standalone Toshiba unit. If they did however, this would end the format war, plain and simple. There is no way Blu-ray can compete with a $99 player this holiday, not even close.
I heard that the Virtual Fighter 5 team was disappointed with the royalties from the PS3 version and begged management to do a 360 version, which was never originally in the plans. I think we’ll see MGS4 on the 360 by summer of next year.
He wants to be with his family, I can understand that (if this really is the reason!). Let’s give the new guy a chance, see what he can bring to the table. Hopefully, he’ll fast track some price cuts!
Personally, I think he’s taking the fall for the warranty thing. It’s not his fault, but someone has to go, you don’t lose a billion dollars and have everyone keep their job.
