Keyboard/Mouse gameplay w/ RTSs & isometric action/RPGs? Or patches and updates that are just as much a staple of consoles now? Or extra campaigns and free DLC courtesy of modders (yet every console gamer loves to fap over UGC found in LBP/MNR/inFamous2 and level editors found in Halo/Far Cry2/Timesplitters) ?
Surely you can't be referring to gamepads because literally you can use 360/DS3/Wiimote on any PC on any multiplat released in the last 5 years. And what's ...
Space Marine is slated for September 6, 2011. But I do agree w/ the assessment it's a terrible launch window for Relic and THQ. Everything I've seen from it so far looks great - like a excellent mix between GOW's melee system and Gears' brutal weaponry.
and I thought it looked like a quasi-PS3 title. Like the Sly Cooper collection, Sony re-did a lot of textures & assets as well for this. I just hope all the console publishers take this much care in re-mastering their great 6th gen IPs.
but the world isn't contained in a vacuum. To summarily dismiss platforms because they don't fit the parameters of our discussion, it's just asinine. I mean, how on Earth could one have a serious discussion of console exclusivity and fail to include Nintendo?
How can we mention such IPs like Mass Effect and neglect the fact it IS playabe on another platform and that SKU is the superior version altogether? This is what gets PC gamers so annoyed. "Console exclu...
When I saw the heading of this article I wondered how many posts it would take to see something about the 1080p/120FPS claim too. Yep 9 posts later there you were.
My question, were you actually that NAIVE to believe company PR? I realized this nonsense when I was seven years old and my Star Wars action figures didn't do the things I saw in commercials.
3 words: Rolston, McFarlane, Salvatore. All you need to know TO KNOW that Kingdoms deserves some hype and exposure on its own merits. I also like that it's being developed in conjunction with a MMO (which means an entire mythos is being created as a backdrop for the new IPs).
Am I the only gamer here, despite my excitement for Skyrim, isn't just a little nervous that the former LEAD designer for Bethesda's 2 best Elder Scrolls games ISN'T there? Rolston could&...
I didn't literally mean "catch" PCs, I mean the huge discrepancy that existed during the 80s and 90s between PCs vs. consoles has shrank substantially over the last decade. Most PC gamers, i.e. NOT enthusiasts, game @ 1080p. Although few in number, consoles can also display games at 1080p. In the next 10 years we will that disparity grow again and will probably match those aforementioned eras.
and two - he's a CEO whose been privy to information from all 3 manufacturers while you're a 2 bubbled Nintendo fanboy on N4G. I wonder who I should take at face value.
And if you can't see that MS aims XBox Live to be a social network (like Facebook but w/ subs) then I should probably end this post. Sony followed suit with PSN and both realize the massive potential revenue for the future. Isn't the Windows 8/Xbox Live integration a step in this direction?
there's your answer....
He won the 1st ever Nintendo Power contest. So no, it isn't a surprise; in fact I expect to see Epic's games on the Wii U in the next few years.
Hope 3rd parties and the manufacturers themselves realize exclusive features could help drive sales of 3rd party IPs.
Just using GR as an example:
a) MS gets Gunsmith mode & throw in some extra specific achievements
b) Sony gets Move sharpshooter support
c) Ninty gets a HUD-free experience (and an extra screen for additional options - viewing AI drone perspectives for example)
PC will always have highest resolution, smoothest frame...
Scroll down to the 4th paragraph, "Halo's only COMPLETION is multiplatform FPS's, but Killzone has to compete with Resistance, MAG, and & multiplatform FPS's."
You should proofread your article next time instead of relying on spellcheck. The irony of the sentence is the word you were groping for, COMPETITION, was included in the sentence later on.
Pfft...Where's the comparisons between different genres? How do MS exclusives stack...
If you read carefully it only says he learned of an UNIDENTIFIED IP within the industry with an estimated budget of 80 million. My money would be on GTA5 or Bungie's next game; something that huge would have to have the ability to generate massive sales.
OT: Despite Jaffe's pompous persona, it really must feel good to know you contributed some true happiness in the final days of sorrow in a young man's life.
It's not up to par with current games? What, you mean like Homefront or Brink? They both are CURRENT gen, look like ass graphics-wise, I had no fun playing either, and yet you don't see me blogging articles or posting in them. Make your point and move on. After that no ones cares...it just makes you annoying
$121.99 to repair the phat, or $99 to replace it with a slim.
for core gaming purposes. I can't imagine for example, having to switch controllers between offense & defense in Madden. As long as it's an additional option for core gamers and not required, I find it highly unlikely Nintendo would want to limit themselves of extra revenue; unless perhaps they're planning to sell the tablet peripheral at a loss. Mr. Iwata stated that "while WiiU could technically support multiple [tablet] controllers, it would raise costs quite considera...
It is the younger female, ages 15-35, who Nintendo hopes to attract to its new console. 15 million tablets were sold during the 4th quarter last year alone. Now look at the percentages of those who use tablets.
In the WiiU, I find it commendable Nintendo continually seeks ways of attracting new audiences to gaming yet are attempting to cater to the insatiable demands of the core gamer. Very hard row to till.
if there's one company who knows the value of launching first, it would be MS. So it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see the 720 arrive in the States before WiiU. IMO fall 2012/spring 2013 seems feasible.
Remember MS isn't restricted to just E3 in announcing new hardware too. From a business standpoint it makes more sense for MS to focus on 2011 holidays, announce the 720 @ GDC 2012 (march), and release in the Fall with 8 months of hype and marketing with Hal...
cost and heat dissipation will be the deciding factors next gen.
Looking at Sony's financial reports this morning illustrates $399 was the sweet spot for the PS3. 5mil sold at $499-599, 45mil since it reached that price point and lower.
Addressing the RROD and YLOD problems, perhaps it is heat dissipation that will actually be the determining factor of how powerful these consoles are.
2-3 gigs sounds about right for Sony & MS's ne...
I did a dry run of Origin last week by buying both Burnout complete and Mirror's Edge for $5 apiece and I've encountered no problems so far. The biggest annoyance seems to me that I can't disable auto log-in when I start my PC
