That's a polite way of saying Oblivion in space. They haven't changed the formula at all since Morrowind. Ever since Ken Rolston left, it's been Todd Howard lying to the press and copy/paste at higher resolutions. Nothing new or innovative. Bethesda hasn't made a good game since Fallout 3. Even then they got outshined by Obsidian and threw a temper tamtrum over New Vegas.
@ alb899 - of course sales matter. They don't make games PLAY better dum dum. You don't get to play the games at all if sales are non-existent. 3rd party publishers skip the platform altogether, i.e. Japanese publishers foregoing IP launches in Japan on Xbox hardware. You want GP to become the home of MS 1st party and Indie shovelware?
Post 2020 lifetime sales of 8th gen consoles; 120 mil PS4, 50 mil Xbox 1, & 13.5 mil WiiU. Sony managed to more than double its closest competitor. They almost doubled the entire field. After 30 years, Nintendo exited the console space altogether to focus on its handheld division so I commend MS for hanging in there trying to a lemon into lemonade.
Next gen, I do expect MS to perform better, however ironically more of the same sales-wise though; 110-120 mil PS5 & ...
This isn't the same concept though. One IP is an expansion, albeit born from DLC, and the other is a full-on remake. Both feature new content. Putting next gen bells n whistles in BF5 is akin to putting lipstick on a pig. After the awful BF1, the last plunge many of us BF guys wanted to take was a revised, re-imagined WW2 setting. Then to lump any dissension of the game into the woke controversy by EA executives was enough to sour many of us from EVER wanting to play it. Since you seem mo...
I disagree. Look at the historical trends. Successful Nintendo products have a shelf life of 6+ years. It's 4-5 years for devices that underperform. The Switch is obviously a massive success but here in March the system will be 4 years old. Switch Lite already exists. So I expect Nintendo to launch a new system rather than extend the current gen. Switch Too in 2023. I don't expect Nintendo to reinvent the wheel this time around. All those IPs you listed will make for perfect cross ge...
yes the consoles are tracked the moment they leave the warehouse via a serial number. At the retail level, the final sale is only processed by scanning said serial number. I scanned quite a few consoles during the PS360 days.
The WiiU was a catastrophic failure. Sold just 13.5 million and caused Nintendo to exit the the home console space. Congrats, they sold the most handhelds this gen with no competition. The WiiU's dismal performance ended 30 years of Nintendo consoles. Let that sink in. And you call it a fumble. Win at all costs, eh?
I disagree. 3rd party games don't sell well at all. Nintendo fans expect 3rd party pubs to make exclusive IPs for their system. Even then the sales don't warrant the effort. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 sold 1.25 million units out of an user base of 60 mil. That's the highest selling 3rd party property. A swimming pool of money and proper QA ain't gonna change that. So you can't just lay all the blame at EA's feet. Skyrim and Witcher are quality ports for IPs that sold ...
these are contractual obligations. They can't choose to ignore them. The entire thread is full of you guys and your misguided notion of giving credit to MS for "doing the right thing". There is no right thing. They either follow through with the deal and make money or face lengthy litigation in court and lose money. Notice the keyword in my sentence? It starts with M.....
remember though you're also talking about tax season. It's like second Xmas for these retailers. Entirely possible to sell 1-2 million from Feb. 8th to March 31st globally.
you're right. SIE expects to sell nearly 10 million units by March. As a whole Sony projects PS5 to outperform PS4. Jim Ryan is referring to the Korean market with that quote and its potential success in a traditionally PC centric country. I imagine Sony is hoping they can replicate the success of the PS4 in Germany, in an Asian market. Anything north of 7 million isn't technically wrong, the reporter is simply attaching PS4's fiscal 2013 sales as a starting point in reference to...
4K is dirt cheap amigo. I just went out and bought a LG OLED and so did my son. Now I splurged on a C10 but he got a 50" LG Nanocell 4k for $450 (one of the few sub-500 sets with HDMI 2.1 on it). They also had 55" models cheap as $300 though. He saved up his pennies and bought it on a part-time job at McDonalds. I doubt the average consumer knows or gives a shit about all the bells n whistles of newer sets. Not to mention the Black Friday deals the past 2 years have had 4K sets go a...
@ Shaggy - because you don't buy a company that makes millions from being multiplatform, then decide they're going exclusive and expect to sell anywhere close to what they currently make. Do you honestly think the 23 million people that bought copies of Skyrim are all going to purchase Xboxes? And what makes you think they'd PURCHASE the game anyway? I'd gamepass those IPs like millions of others would and MS would have to share the revenue with partners. Hell even if the inf...
Think both PS1 and PS2 had better launches. Both systems had a dozen or so games ready for launch. Not saying these games were all winners but they weren't cross-gen games hyped up as exclusives either. The only confirmed PS5 launch exclusive is Demon's Souls. Sony better have more than Ratchet and Clank as a PS5 exclusive in the next 14 months or old Bucky's declaration "we believe in generations" rings hollow.
@ Neogamer - you think almost paying a billion for each developer is a good price? That has to be some of the dumbest shit I've read here in a long time. Insomniac's $230 million deal is a good price to pay for a GOOD developer. Paying a billion for MachineGames and Wolfenstein: Youngblood is laughable.
Of course this wasn't done due to the devs. Owning the IP rights to ES and FO is great, but having a great 1st party engine and less reliance on Unreal is a h...
not so sure about these base systems. Think we all would've been better served if Sony/MS retired them in 2018 and used the Pro/X model for 2 more years. Completely agree though over 25 million PS4s have been sold in 2019/20. You have to show continued support and Sony intimated a year ago PS4 would be company's focal point through 2021. I just assumed most of Sony's big hitters wouldn't be launching in that window. Not gonna lie - I am disappointed that HZD2 and most likely G...
And you are severely overestimating the IPs Bethesda owns. ES and FO are no doubt heavy hitters but several years away from releasing. All the others including Doom have suffered IP fatigue in recent years with Dishonored and Evil Within being abandoned altogether by the developers. Judging by Deathloop's and Tokyo Ghost Wire's reception at the PS5 showcase, most gamers were either disappointed or "meh" to both. Does Bethesda's catalog look impressive on GP? Absolutely b...
Scotsman is right. You can share a title digitally and play simultaneously. It used to be up to 2 others could log in your account on their PS3s and download the game. With PS4 Sony limited it to one. Just add your account to his PS4, and denote his account as the primary one so it logs him into his PS4 at bootup. All he has to do is occasionally log into your account and download whatever you purchased. He doesn't even have to stay on your account. Simply que the content and switch back...
Can't stand the current crop of Sony executives. Jim Ryan is a yellow, buck-toothed tool, up there with Phil, Aaron Greenburg and the thankfully departed Reggie Fils-Aime as the most pompous asses in gaming.
MS said themselves around 2018 they didn't believe in "generations" anymore. Moving forward all new MS console launches will feel like mid-gen refreshes. I guess the silver lining is in 2024 when Xbox series X Pro releases, all these recent buys might have something to release alongside it
