I wonder how many might be tempted to go all digital if the manufacturers incentivized digital with better savings. For example what if Sony not only charged less upfront for the DE console, but also gave every DE owner 10% off digital purchases. I'd love to see 10% off too for pre-ordering new games as well. Make the coupons stack too. They could encourage major publishers to follow suit by offering kickbacks and lower royalties a la EGS.
Would a $450 PS5 DE (vs. $500 ...
yes how shameful they don't want their new, unfinished game to run on 8 year old machines. Clearly they're horrible at optimization. Thank the lord for MS, Xcloud, and GP so I can play this on my Galaxy s5 in 2022!!
Last of Us sold 22 million across PS3/4. If tLoU2 scores well, I can see it pulling very similar numbers across PS4/5. If we get a numbered GT by 2022-23 I see it doing 12-15 mil by next gen's end. The racing genre's popularity has waned in NA and Japan the past few years so I don't think it can surpass an action/adventure survival horror IP (especially if both properties are on an even keel in terms of quality). We'll see
it's the deep breath before the plunge
Preach on Jim Ryan. I'm sure Take Two would love nothing more than coasting through another gen with an uprezzed GTA5 but some of us want more
no when Sony is market leader they do impose censorship. They did it in the past, then they didn't, now they do. What's the common denominator? It REALLY isn't that complicated
in total agreement with you: Xcloud is the perfect vehicle to get a foothold in Japan. Low entry cost to consumers, no hardware loss for MS. As always with the Japanese market, it does depend on content. But MS should just focus on PC for the Asian market overall and xcloud/mobile for Japan. Xbox is not needed for MS to excel there.
"What truth is exposed by regurgitating the same old stories everybody has known for years?"
Simple. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Look at what happens if I apply that to Sony. Will PS5 have some form of censorship in place? Yes most likely. If you're into hentai graphic porn novel dating sims don't buy a PS5 - they will be censored. See how easy this is?
what you felt was a chore - to me felt like a natural evolution to the survival horror aspect first seen in Resident Evil (minus the tank controls). Limited ammo, oftentimes having to choose between health or ammo in the crafting menu, choosing stealth over run and gun, etc... Loved the tension the game constantly created on higher difficulties. But I also see what made Days Gone so much fun. You're right though about both of these games being so different yet in the same genre. Hope to s...
you're missing the point of this article then. It's really a pro-Ninty fluff piece sponsored by VG and submitted by one of their lackey Trunks. How many of these articles did we see during the WiiU years? Go check out their forums if you don't believe me. Ironic considering the site was started years ago by a pro-Xbox fanatic.
where's the link Chappie? Sony comes out a few months back with a 106 mil sold (up to 110 mil shipped now) and AMD follows that with their own tech conference noting they sold 150+ mil APUs to Sony/MS during the 8th gen. We later read it was approximately 152 mil. That's roughly 46 mil Xbox's out in the wild. Either your math is wildly off or Sony & AMD are lying.
Fact of the matter is MS has the more powerful next gen system, ergo it's also the more ex...
Why Santa Monica? Wouldn't Sony Japan would be a much better fit since two programmers of the original SH team are currently employed by SOJ? Short of a Kojima PT reunion, I'd love a Silent Hills VR headed by Nicholas Doucet. Imagine what that guy's team could come up with if you gave him an AAA budget on PS5/ PSVR2!
Shu's been gushing about this game for a long time now. This is right up there with Bloodborne as his most talked/played game this gen. He got me amped for this a couple years ago when the Japanese cherry blossom article dropped. This game is no doubt Sucker Punch's magnum opus and I expect it to push upwards of 15 mil on PS4/5 like Last of Us. I wouldn't put it past Shu to plat the game within weeks of its release
why hasn't Sony shown anything except the controller? Simple really. They're still selling PS4s like hotcakes and IPs like FF7 Remake and Nioh 2 just launched. The next 2 months sees a sequel to one of Sony's best selling IPs ever and one of the biggest new games of the current gen. Why throw away this last year so you can focus on next gen? Wouldn't a better situation be like what Sony is doing now? Sony customers know what to expect the next decade. Honestly, can MS and Nin...
remember the paddle for Pong? Atari had a joystick but also a paddle too (for Breakout I believe it was called). Don't think kids today could play with one of those on a little 13" black & white. Even had a coat hanger for an antennae! But those were good times man. Either of these new consoles are so far beyond what we experienced & dreamed of as kids it doesn't matter what we buy now as adults. I don't expect to receive any PS5 news until tLoU2 & Ghost release ...
because that article's premise is ridiculous. When you're outsold by 60 million in hardware, there's no position of strength. When you're one of the biggest publishers in the world and you haven't had a single internally developed IP sell 10 million the last decade (last being Bungie's Halo 3 at 12 mil) there's no position of strength. I quit reading 3 paragraphs in on both articles because the bias is obvious.
I do look forward to reading the...
so the 2 million sales from Halo Wars ain't enough to justify same day and date as all their other 1st party exclusives? See this is why I don't trust MS, not that I dislike them. IF releasing exclusives simultaneously on PC meant that much to their business philosophy shouldn't the same apply to their console side as well? I've heard all the excuses from the usual XBox defender's brigade above, but nothing a trillion dollar company shouldn't had solved before release...
since you're referring to the genre, is 2 million players better than Bloodstained's 1 million sales?
EDIT: I mean what do you consider a better metric of success? I hope this mini resurgence of the genre leads to greater things but we'll see. I don't take stock in MAUs as a quantifiable measurement of success
