What games? The 6 year old ports from 3rd parties? The unremastered collections with artificial scarcity? The WiiU ports? I know I know, portability gives all these games a fresh coat of paint. But if you already played the games, owned the system, and don't like planting flowers then Nintendo hasn't done much the last 18 months...Can I at least get a new Metroid 4 logo? Maybe Bayonetta 3 will launch alongside Switch Too in '23. I've finally given up waiting on a new Fatal Fra...
no Mr. Sec - the OP with the second sentence changed the context to include other studios. Raider's comment is perfectly justified given the topic at hand (i.e. older game updated to take advantage of PS5's power) and the lack of transparency from Sony regarding the conservation of legacy software.
Just became the best selling 3rd party IP on Switch too by twofold. Amazing or sad not really sure. Another 6 to go and Cappy might actually crack the top 10! In the last 4 gens, not one single 3rd party IP has cracked a Nintendo platform's top 10. This would be a huge accomplishment given the historical trends of Nintendo gamers buying only Nintendo games on Nintendo platforms. C'mon Rise you can do it!
Saleswise, most JRPGs are grossly overrated by their fanbases. Look at LoD or Wild Arms. People constantly want remakes of games that barely sold 400-500k. They only eeked out a profit because publishers only needed to sell that much to break even on PS2.
Switch is an 8th gen portable. They quit making consoles altogether after WiiU, another 8th gen device, sold just 13.5 million units. For the last four hardware cycles, Nintendo portables have outsold their console counterparts by a considerable margin (391 mil vs. 170 mil). Surely in 2023 when the Switch Too drops we're not going to still have this conversation due to an HDMI out port?
I can see points for both. Obviously no explanation needed if MS decides to keep those IPs exclusive. But if MS is indeed interested more in GP subs, I could totally see Bethesda's big games coming to PS5. Huh? What I just say? Sounds crazy. I'd laugh my arse off if MS adopts Sony's own pricepoint too. Day 1 on PS5 @ $69.99 or included free with a GP sub on XBox/PC. What a selling point - right there on the PSN store being advertised by Sony to boot. Who will the N4G Hive call ou...
I prefer his summary. This is DF's 30th article or so on a game many have called shit. At this point who cares? I came here to read the fodder
"Networks generating high impression-counts for Nintendo included Cartoon Network, Nick, and Disney Channel, while top programs included SpongeBob SquarePants, The Amazing World of Gumball, and Teen Titans Go!."
Bookmarked for the N4G guy who told me most Switches are bought by adult gamers. Yeah sure they are.

Your Switch didn't come with a screen? Can you unplug it and it still turns on? Then it's a portable. It has a HDMI out port. Does the dock have a HDD or augment the device's power in anyway? It's not a hybrid. Doesn't make the Switch inferior or bad. But let's call a spade a spade.
I found it awful too. Felt like a game that started development on the PS360 machines, ported over to the PS4/X1 era, and now finally releases cross-gen with the 5/X. Terrible script, useless Bethesda-like dialogue tree, gears cover mechanics, and that old unreal engine plastic sheen on everything. Toss in server bugs and game crashes and I'm shocked so many people like it. Nothing is original and everything they copied from other games is worse not improved. After playing the demo I thou...
@ IR - 2nd party investment is a short term stop gap for lack of content though. By next year Deathloop and Tokyo will be on GP and the Medium will "cross over" to PS5. Hardly worth the pricetag of admission. Currently Series S/X has one exclusive (timed) and PS5 has 2 (Astro and Demon). By June PS5 gets two more exclusives in Returnal and Ratchet. Not much of a list to start porting over is it?
Again I have no issue with Sony bringing IPs to PC (I own 2 gaming ri...
This point has been addressed ad nauseum on this site and many others for years. It's pretty simple. More hardware sales equal a healthier ecosystem. Which means more publisher interest and more developer support for platforms. Thus we get more games. So those high sales figures do give something back to gamers. Sure manufacturers and publishers make money along the way. It's a risky business. There's a whole graveyard dedicated to dead consoles and defunct publishers out there.
the only problem is I've yet to see Sony double down on studio investment. Seems to me that's an altruistic viewpoint that hasn't manifested itself. Hell, THQ Nordic and MS have been busier on that front recently. I don't want a timed window to just play PS5 1st party software before PC gamers. If Sony ceases having to pay to play online then I'd happily agree. You don't think it's a very pretentious attitude of Sony to expect console gamers to fork out $500 for a...
But he is right in one sense. MS has been in the industry for nearly 25 years and we're still waiting on their exclusives. Who launches a new system without a single piece of software that utilizes it? Of all the games you listed, I've seen 7-10 minutes of gameplay collectively. I have softened my stance on BC in recent months yet I still didn't buy a next gen console for BC enhancements. That's what my PC is for; curating a collection of third party content to be played anyt...
Starfield ain't happening. Hope you got some fallback games planned.
that has always been the obligatory defense mechanism for xbox fans on the internet. Doesn't matter how many times you point out it's not some anti-MS rallying cry denouncing Xbox, they can't help but process it as xbox bad playstation good fanboy rhetoric.
Play Anywhere! Yet they sure do seem to get upset for people playing MS games on devices not named Xbox's. Hope no one told'em about Xcloud and mobile users in the coming years.
"as well as buying studios just to keep games off other systems"
Nintendo does that too. Years ago they purchased the Fatal Frame IP for that exact very reason. They purchased Monolith to keep Xenogears off PS consoles. They signed a deal with Capcom for a handheld RE and Monster Hunter exclusivity. That deal essentially killed the Vita in Japan.
"They just didn't sell". And there ya go. This isn't a participation event where everyone gets a smiley face or a gold star for showing up. This is a multi-billion dollar industry. Sony gave this studio more time to get their shit together than anyone else. They failed, simple as that.
"Also, gamers will be able to take part in both local and online co-op modes."
looks like the journo forgot to read beyond the press release. You're right. No couch co-op at launch. Sad to see local co-op go the way of the Dodo. I guess the only work around is a min-LAN set up with multiple systems and tellies
