if you care about 3rd party BC, buy a PC and see what real forward compatibility is all about. Arguing about console BC is like watching 2 special needs kids in a fight, just sad. The only BC Sony, Nintendo, and MS should care about is preserving their OWN legacy software. Day 1 games are nice but only if the quality is there. It'll take years for GP to start seeing the fruits of their acquisitions. Will be worth it in a couple, but not now
Factions. Sony is no hurry to patch most of these games. That much is apparent. TLOU2's PS5 patch will arrive shortly before Factions is set to launch. Same with Horizon, i.e. right before sequel drops. Have no clue as to why UC4, Blood, Until Dawn, and many other PS4 classics haven't received PS5 updates. With all that PS+ revenue, you'd think they could at least give a shit about last gen.
so you had a PS5 and criticize them for making PS5 exclusives? Hmmn. Yet you're enjoying a $500 console with no new 1st party games? HMMMN....
I agree but not going away anytime soon. Look how both companies have benefited from online subscriptions. The 360 and X1 turned a profit despite RROD, extended warranties, and virtually nonexistent sales from Asian and mainland European regions. Sony, with real financial troubles stemming from the 7th gen, gained nearly 100 billion off the PS brand this past gen alone. Nintendo, even with their half-assed attempt, joined the fracas because that honey is too sweet to pass up.
Patch should've dropped the day the PC version was released. Knowing Sony probably saving it for the pre-launch hype buildup for the sequel.
Look at their output since the acquisition - almost matches ND during the PS3 era. It was good for them to test the waters with MS and EA. No regrets about joining Sony after SSO (no marketing) and Fuse (publisher meddling) fizzled. I like how they're not afraid to tackle different genres too, whether it be open-world, 3D platformer, or FPS.
it performed way better than recent turds like Cyberpunk and Outriders. I had no gamebreaking bugs, no character wipes, missing HUD, etc...Did it have issues? Absolutely. But this is some righteous hyperbole.
Guess for Bend it's too bad they weren't owned by MS - as we see the GP Effect and the glowing reviews for Day 1 games. Considering they bought Undead Labs AFTER that awful sequel released, we'd at least be getting a Days Gone 2. Instead I get zombie deer...
I want the game base tab moved to the right side of the main UI at the top by the search bar. I hate having to go into submenus to access party/friends list to join. Not a deal breaker by any means, just a simple QoL improvement. Seems counterintuitive to hide the social aspect in a submenu when Sony's whole mantra the last 15 years is community community community (Home, share button, etc....)
Rise nearly outsold every other game on the list combined. Wow that's awful. Somebody please tell the Japanese to put away their cell phones and go buy some games.
So what should they do? Not release any games for the first 6 months of the PS6? Come out with a subscription service that highlights their anemic library and supplement it with indie games "you might not have tried if they weren't free"? Purchase a publisher or two to keep their internet warriors well-armed? I have several criticisms of Sony. But emulating either one of their competitors isn't an option.
Christ, I thought the milking of Mario was bad. Never imagined they've been shoehorning him in games THAT much! What is it like 5 games a year since '91? Meanwhile I've given up hope of ever getting a new F-Zero or Fatal Frame. Wouldn't shock me if Metroid and Bayonetta 3 release on the Switch Too for that matter. Think I'm gonna petition Sony for Bowling with Kratos.
Foot on the gas? How so? By releasing a $500 console and no 1st party games for what, like 6 months?
it's still 500k more copies than they would've sold otherwise had they not released it. There are tangible benefits to this model for both PS and PC consumers as long as sleazy Jim Ryan doesn't go overboard. This a great way for Sony to preserve its own legacy software too.
For the record I do think it devalues their own platform by releasing current gen software on PC too early. But there is a plethora of PS 3/4 IPs needing to be properly patched. Sony fails t...
"the growth of GP is staggering". Well that's what a dollar gets you. MS better hope all these acquisitions pan out by the time it's full price. Or they'll be like Netflix - a yoyo every quarter with profits and losses. And that's with 60 million plus subscribers and a much cheaper produced entertainment medium than games.
well at least you recognize it. All 3 have a vested interest in selling their products so deceptive PR is part of the game. Look at Nintendo. They sold people a portable with a HDMI out and called it a "hybrid console" so people wouldn't notice that they dropped out of the console biz altogether. They knew, from the 3DS days, they couldn't charge a premium price for a handheld. But a "console" isn't held to such low pricepoints. As a PS fan, I knew the moment I...
Yeah they released a $500 console without a single game developed for it. Just MAGICAL. Within 8 months of launch, Sony will have released five 1st party games for PS5 (Astro, Ratchet, Demon's, MLB the Show, and Returnal) with 4 of them being platform exclusive. Sony will even have a 1st party game on Series X before MS does! But do continue to be blindsided by Gamepass. Guess I'll have to look forward to a whole slew of shovelware this gen if a mediocre game like Outriders is celeb...
VG Charts is garbage Stotty. I'm surprised N4G allows anything from that site on here. We N4Gers had this fight many years ago during the PS360 era. They completely made up numbers and were banned for a long time. There are no facts when it comes to this site.
Lol how many subs paid a dollar? I did. How many Xbox fans gloated about converting their 2-3 years of Gold into GP for a buck on JUST this site? So stop Captain Obvious. It's pretty clear that 6th grade math can't account for all the variables.
Well besides the obvious paycheck there's the exposure from marketing that wouldn't exist otherwise. Remember by and large we're talking mostly about indie developers who don't have the economic means and infrastructure to bring their wares to the forefront of most gamers' mindset. From Sony's perspective this makes good business sense because they essentially get to advertise a new, free game and only have to account for the PS5's potential 1st month of sales. O...
Problem is though Chris, MS had this deficiency before GP existed, i.e. lagging hardware sales equated to far lower software sales than their competitors. From 2012-2017, multiplats all favored PS, and sometimes PC in between depending on the genre. That GP payday isn't the type of money publishers want, but apparently it's better than nothing at this point.
