You remember more than I do. It really is quite a sad state of affairs when your characters and previous plot line are so forgettable that you spend time trying to remember what happened in the previous game while a cutscene passes you by.
You have a solid point. The only reason TLoU doesn't have the most Game of the Year awards of all time is because of it's exclusivity. The Witcher 3 has two more GotY awards than TLoU, but it's on PC and Xbox One as well. A 95 meta score game topped a 97 game. Then again, GTA, Zelda, and Mario are always overrated, I never trust the meta score for those games (not saying they're bad games, but they definitely don't deserve high 95+ metas).
Tomb Raider does a better job of allowing the player to explore the world and do more things. The issue for me is this; you have to give me a reason to want to do that. I have no interest in the characters or storytelling. I beat Rise of the Tomb Raider and only completed one additional tomb. Even though Uncharted games are linear, they have a lot of heart and the characters have depth. I care about Nate, Sully, and Elena. The end of Uncharted 4 was perfect. Loved those games. In RotTR, I wat...
I personally don't think God of War topped the original The Last of Us (in the storytelling department, the two games' gameplay is completely different). If anyone is going to one up them this generation though, it's ND. God of War is the best narrative experience of the generation so far, for me at least.
This article tries to downplay ND's mechanics in TLoU, saying that no one plays the game for it's mechanics. The mechanics worked well, the stealth w...
I can respect that. Even still, after waiting a year for the PS4 version (plus a bit of time for a price drop), I was still rather disappointed. Then again, I played it directly after God of War.
It's OK if you want an OK game. I'd rather have excellent, so I'll be passing on this one. I don't want any more of this franchise. Rise bored the life out of me, took me over a week to pick back up.
It's not necessarily the story that I have issue with, it's the storytelling. Their character development and storytelling are pretty bad. Forgettable, for me at least. Gameplay is fine.
I'm getting one of these two games. Coincidentally, the game I'm getting will have a console with a shiny red finish and white Spider-Man logo on it. I just recently played RotTR; I have no interest in the new game. I can't say it enough.
Yeah, that one looks nice too. It has 2 TB of storage, but it seems like something you'd want to keep in the box.
Hard pass for me so far. RotTR was incredibly boring to me. Mechanics were fine, but the storytelling was as weak and uninteresting as the protagonist. Hopefully they up the ante in the storytelling department.
Looks awesome. I'll be playing this on my new Spider-Man PS4 Pro :3
They had plenty of reused assets for sure, but I'm at the point (as a gamer) where that stuff doesn't have quite as much of an effect on me. If something has great story-telling, so long as it plays well, little things like that won't bug me. I played Rise of The Tomb Raider right after GoW, and while it had some varied gameplay, the storytelling was not very good. I took week long breaks trying to finish RotTR. I'll take a few repeated enemies and animations over stale storyt...
It's definitely possible considering the larger fan base of the Spider-Man IP. Hell, I'm buying the special PS4 Pro along with it. God of War was phenomenal. I was honestly blown away by how great the storytelling was in that game (approached TLoU levels of storytelling). I was tired of the franchise (even though GoW was one of my favorites for a while), the new GoW gave me something I didn't know I wanted/needed and it made me very happy. That being said, whether or not Spider-Ma...
Spider-Man and Batman have quite the lineup of villains (at least well know ones). I hope they have an awesome Symbiote story for the sequel. Either way, I'm not complaining. One of my favorite developers making a game about my favorite superhero... You have no idea how excited I was when the Insomniac logo popped up for this game.
Any list that mentions story rich games but doesn't include The Last of Us us a bust. I agree with some of these, but that's a terrible exclusion that makes me disregard this person's opinion entirely.
I would rather have Microsoft's cloud promises this generation than any of these terrible exclusive games. Cloud gaming that doesn't do what you say > exclusive games

Don't worry, you're not the only one. The metascore on GTAIV made me think I was missing out on something. It's one of the few games I haven't beaten (that I've started). I do really like Red Dead Redemption though. I'll be getting RDR 2 for sure.
I don't mind the publishing of a game with timed exclusive rights (Rise of the Tomb Raider may have never been made without MS's support). I just hate the timed DLC thing, drives me nuts.
I'll get one eventually, but for now I need my Spider-Man PS4 Pro. I already have two regular PS4s (giving one to a friend), and I'm currently more excited for the upgrade than a Switch. That may change when they release the next mainline Pokémon game, though I've yet to finish Pokémon Moon.
I literally have enough money to buy an Xbox One X, but I'm going to pass. It's clearly the more powerful of the two, facts are facts. In a month, I'll be purchasing a PS4 Pro Spider-Man bundle. I'll give my old PS4 to my friend. All in all, I've had two regular PS4s and I'll have a Pro because of the games. I don't care how powerful a system is. The difference isn't all people make it out to be either, 3rd party aren't going crazy over optimization. It'...
