I was there overnight at Target for the launch of the original Xbox and picked up Project Gotham, Dead or Alive, Oddworld and Halo. Halo blew me away and like so many others was hooked for a long time to come. Then Halo 2 came out and personally it's been one big dissapointment after another. I don't care about the remake, Halo 4 or anything else that has the term Halo in it. I would argue this is an example of a series that started out great and has de-evolved.
Developers aren't even trying to hide it anymore. Content is held out so they can charge you later. If we re already at $60 a pop for incomplete games I can't imagine what new shenanigans will be unleashed upon us next generation.
Giant enemy crabs!!!
ME1 was one of my favorite games this generation and while I enjoyed ME2 I agree they lost their way with the game which was technically solid but was nowhere near as focused as ME1. The multiplayer in ME3 looks like a continuation of this and quite frankly feels like BioWare testing the waters for a ME-MMO next generation.
Nintendo has put itself in a bad spot. The gimmicky controller worked for Wii with very outdated graphics but I believe the chances of it happening again are very slim.
The fact is that by the time the PS4 and Xbox "720" launch it will be last generation graphics again with a huge controller that you can only use one of at a time.
I would still take this over some goofy, ebonic crap.
Maybe it's because Mass Effect has become hands down the series that made this generation for me but I found Deus Ex dialogue options and branching to be clunky and unpolished.
Maybe it's because I'm 35 now and have been around literally since the launch of the first NES but I am just worn out on Nintendo. The last time I was excited for Mario or Zelda was on the N64, for me that was the height of my Nintendo fandom. I tried with Gamecube and Wii but I just couldn't do it.
@Too Pawned, I tend to agree that it will be many years down the road but I see a character like Mario turning into the next Sonic.
I have not been a GTA fan since GTAIII at all but it's a system seller no doubt. When Microsoft was able to pull the GTA series from what had been a powerhouse for PS2 it did a lot for their brand.
The fact is that Nintendo has a few long standing franchises that we all grew up on and love but no quality third party support and haven't since Rare during the N64 days. Sony has exclusives like Uncharted and God of War while Microsoft has Gears and Halo along with huge...
I know I am in the minority but I really enjoyed everything about FF XII, honestly:) I can understand the gripes I guess but they were never things that bothered me. I've finished it twice and am as excited for the next installment as I am Mass Effect 3.
All of the talk always revolves around graphics but the real focus should be put into making good games period. The fact that all these years later I can put in Perfect Dark or Final Fantasy VII and enjoy them more then most games regardless of their graphics says a lot.
I love Mass Effect, it made this generation for me, I'm all about it. Uncharted and Gears were also fantastic but overall I found many titles that I liked much more in generations gone by.
The only two FPS title this generation that I truly loved was Bioshock. It took the genre and did something really special with it. In fact it is the first FPS I have enjoyed that much since the glory days of Goldeneye/Perfect Dark on the N64. As for the majority of FPS titles I would agree they are garbage from a single player and multiplayer standpoint. Nothing original going on at all.
I'm sorry you are British too:)
Regardless if it's next year or a couple years the things I'm looking most foward to are new IPs. This has become the trilogy generation and as much as I have loved Gears, Mass Effect, Uncharted, Killzone and Bioshock I am really looking forward to some new titles.
I was one of the people who actually stood in line overnight at Target to get the original Xbox on day one with Halo, DOA3, Project Gotham Racing and Oddworld. To be honest I was in line because of Oddworld:)
Anyway, after getting back home and putting in each title for a few minutes each I put in Halo and couldn't put it down, it was like nothing I had ever played before. Now that the years have gone Halo is a dead horse. I could not care any less about a series that ...
I know there are millions of gamers that would disagree but I don't think anything in the series has even come close to living up to the greatness of GTAIII. I could not be less "excited" about another installment in a series I haven't enjoyed for about a decade.
I'm excited by this news since Fallout 3 was one of my top games this generation. I hated Oblivion:)
It would be great to see them take on DC, especially the current joke of a "president" but something tells me Rockstar will stay true to form and spend their time bashing Republicans and treating libs with kid gloves.
Might as well wait a few more weeks and pick up the complete edition.
Uncharted isn't some sacred cow. It is amazing to me how much time people complain about scores and what others think. Reviews should be there to help guide customers, instead they are a pissing contest.
There are many titles every generation that score very high that I think are complete and total garbage. I will resist from naming names but a quick look at the "all-time best" on Gamerankings and I notice that less than half of the top 50 are games I even li...
