The division is an excellent game. Running around the brilliantly realised devastated mid-town Manhattan is a blast.
Absolutely.
When I recall the myriad games that I've played over the decades, I don't remember sitting on a sofa with a controller in my hands, or sitting at a desk with a keyboard and mouse.
The memories are as experiences -extraordinary places I've been, things I've done and adventures I've had. This immersion is increasingly facilitated as the fidelity of games gets higher and higher.
I like to stop or slow down and take in...
Gold Standard? ZERO campaign, zero single player and zero offline makes your statement laughable and stupid.
Whether or not it's the gold standard for multiplayer games -maybe, I have no idea, I barely play 'em.
Well, I was on the fence before... but I'm certainly out now.
Watching a "Let's Play" has become the de facto means of understanding actual gameplay in lieu of the demos most of the industry is no longer interested in releasing.
I seriously doubt there's enough people opting to watch an entire game rather than play to have a measurable effect on sales. Save a bit here to lose a bit there.
If it's really hurting sales, that's on them.
Yes, I too have been studying this subject for more than 30 years and I can conclusively say that no, video games do NOT desensitize players to real-life violence.
I have murdered many, many thousands of NPCs in myriad ways over the course of those years and yet, I STILL can not even watch C.S.I. because it's just too horrifying to me. I still have to cover the screen with my hand when gory stuff is happening in the movies.
I usually just quickly skim the news headlines ...
@ showtimefolks
You can definitely enjoy the game alone. I put in over 100 hours completely solo before any dlc was even released.
You'll run into other players at safehouses but no interaction needed. You'll also run into other players in the pvp Dark Zone but the only interaction needed is at the end of a gun. The dark zone IS quite difficult though to navigate solo for extended periods.
Despite the detractors, I personally think the game is fantastic and ...
The site has been wonky all day. Still is.
The price has already gone up. For the last year or two, new games now cost $90 with tax here in Canada in a retail store, $90 in the Xbox Live Store and $80 on PSN.
The result of that price increase is that I now no longer buy new AAA games AT ALL.
Only used games, deeply discounted games or indie games.
The industry only shoots themselves in the foot when they get greedy.
Of course they are... but unfortunately there are A LOT of complete idiots donning the game "journalist" cap because it's free to anyone with money for hosting.
"dislikable bro-talker to arrogant and aloof"
I really wonder why and for whom these characters are always written so terribly.
It's the same with the last NFS as well... completely unlikeable, unrealistic and embarrassingly cheesy characters and dialogue. It's all so far removed from authenticity, it smacks of desperation.
"undeniable fact"
WTF are you on about? No, it's not a fact at all. It's the OPINION of some random asshole on the internet. Spouting personal opinions and declaring them to be facts is one of the worst defining hallmarks of rock-bottom journalism... and THAT'S A FACT.
I agree. It shouldn't even be a discussion any more. Why is it that so often only the masterpieces in gaming are considered art? Just as in any other medium, be it traditional, musical, cinematic, etc., there are masterpieces, mediocrity and outright garbage.
As soon as I see "whatculture", I just move on.
Glad to see Little Nightmares on that list (my personal favourite) but Wolfenstein II ought to be in there too.
I didn't read that. I've read that while they are planning to expand into multiplayer, the only thing they've decided to give up on is the top-down arcade shooter style of games because the last couple have sold in decreasing amounts.
Too bad for me as I've enjoyed most of their games. Now I feel bad that I didn't buy Matterfall but I just didn't like the addition of platforming into the mix.
I haven't read anywhere that those MP games wouldn'...
The Wolfenstein II score was pretty awesome. Can't wait til it's released officially.
Running out of ideas huh?
I just finished the game and it's fantastic... but it IS infused throughout with implicit commentary on the current political state of america... and of course plenty of nazi killing.
MGSV is one of my all-time favourite games, so the lure is strong, but unnecessary online-only drm = zero chance of a purchase -for this or ANY game.
