I often stand up for each reviewer's right to an opinion, but this guy just sucks at the game, and felt so frustrated that he wrote a blog "review" to vent. This is pretty pathetic.
I'll definitely try it out when I get home from work. Don't really see myself ditching firefox though.
"AAA" actually refers to the budget and marketing behind a release. Doesn't matter if the game is good or not. Lair was a AAA title, for example.
At least, that's what I learned on the 1up yours podcast, I wish I knew what episode and I'd point you to it.
You're technically right I think, but it's often rounded to 1000 kilobytes in a megabyte, 1000 megabytes in a gigabyte, etc. And that's actually what the metric system style naming of the sizes implies as well.
I just want to point out the difference between the HHG headline in the alternate sources and all the others. The other 3 articles all calmly state the basic fact, "Sony now charging publishers to distribute DLC" or something similar. What does HHG say?
"PUBLISHERS SCARED OF PS3 DLC"
A perfect example of HHG's flamebaiting for hits.
Sigh.
I don't foresee publishers charging for demos. This could definitely cause companies to be less likely to put demos out on the PS3 though. Previously the only cost to provide a demo was to remix the already-created content of the game a little bit and hand it off to the console company. Now paying per download might be a big turnoff, though some will still foot that bill for the powerful advertising demos provide.
Hehe, daily sales increased by 60? Finding any significance in that is quite a stretch.
You clearly didn't read the article, as it says the numbers dropped about 25k month over month for PS3. Maybe the article is wrong, I haven't gone back and checked prior numbers to verify. But at least read the article before you harass people for their comments.
Which is why they didn't say much. Their release basically boils down to:
"Yup."
...sort of...
PS3 has the largest percentage of its library rated Great/Good, but 360 has the largest quantity of Great/Good games. The percentage is nice to brag about and pat a console on the back for, but which statistic is really more practical and important to gamers?
I do think metacritic is very flawed, but not really because of "conspiracy" or anything. Numerical review systems are just flawed in general, as there is no consistency at all. And Metacritic even takes non-numerical scores, like 1up which they specifically say is NOT meant to correspond to any numerical scale, and quantifies them anyway.
That said, the comparisons are still pretty interesting. I was especially surprised at the last gen comparisons, which showed a...
I'd expect it to be the most successful RTS any gen. As far as I know an RTS has never really made a sales splash on a console. Maybe they're counting Pikmin?
Why is this "rumored"? The game is out, and it's not that long. If that was said, people would know it, and you wouldn't have sites "speculating" about this quote in the game on a slow news day.
Let's put this to bed and move on.
@1.3, good point. I bet they look to the hard drives to help make up for the loss they take on the $199 arcade model. I'm sure a percentage of arcade owners eventually decide to invest in a hard drive.
But I don't really fault a company for pricing its goods high if they sell. If McDonald's sold Big Macs for $20, they wouldn't be "ripping off their consumers" because they wouldn't have any consumers. That MS can sell hard drives for this much shows that people find th...
Careers:WAR :: Classes:WoW?
Adding two new classes to the 18ish already existing, 6 months into the game? I haven't played WAR, but I feel like it must be either horribly unbalanced, or all the classes are so homogenized it really feels like there are like 3-5 with only tiny variations.
Used game sales may explain a chunk of the difference in games sold and users playing. COD4 is 16 months old now, and I bet a significant percentage of copies have been sold to a second owner through ebay or Gamestop, and some even a third owner since the people who buy used games are probably also people who sell games.
Wow, quests with rewards available exclusively to people who have left and returned? If I were a loyal player this whole time, I would be pissed.
Gamespot's been harsh for as long as they've been reviewing games, across all consoles. This is a pretty solid score from them.
I have no doubt that some kids who didn't know any better got their parents to go buy them Halo Wars and then were disappointed to find out it wasn't a shooter. But definitely not enough to significantly boost sales numbers.
And I don't really fault Microsoft for the way they handled the tv ads. They showed the best LOOKING parts of the game, just like any other game does. Was there gameplay footage in GTA4 commercials? Nope, just cinematics.
Indeed, this video shows absolutely nothing at all. It MIGHT be implying a renaissance setting, but it could just be implying nothing at all. It could just as easily be a promo for the first AC as the second...
