I actually think mw2 is rather good. It is completely riddled with flaws, bugs and glitches but it is still good overall. But the reason it is good is what it takes from the Call of Duty series as a whole.
For example, the controls and input feel almost completely perfect - that is something all the CoD games have in common, and it is probably the single most important thing that a FPS can do; it is the reason for Halo's success too in my opinion. Yet the Halo series had a load of rubbi...
It's really easy to compensate for bullet drop in games. Infact I'd say it only makes it about 50% harder at extremely long ranges - it is something we are naturally good at, being humans. Now, if people are getting spawn killed by snipers it is probably due to bad level design and/or bad spawn systems.
