Hypothetically, if things continue to slow then a price drop will be necessary to minimize loss and promote industry growth.
Right now Sony is losing...$280 or so on a console they sell for $600.
However, if that console NEVER sells, and sits on a retil shelf, Sony loses $880. So, if they dropped the price to $400, they would be losing $480 - not good, but better than $880 and they will have an installed base to recoup the loss on games.
This is an extrem...
but for every generic FPS the US puts out, their is a generic JRPG. Look, all I'm saying is that it is not ALL about Japan anymore. But anyone who chooses to completely ignore Japan is missing out on some great games - like the ones you mentioned, which are in my collection and and are among my favorites from last gen. In the same light, someone who chooses to ignore western developers are missing out also. I think the east-west dynamic makes all games better and invents new gameplay styl...
My friend (who is not a gamer) says I'll be held responsible in the afterlife for the things I do in videogames...I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to explain my obsession with grenade-launching innocent civilians in Crackdown whenever I face "final judgement".
I bought a 360 at launch, but I'm waiting until the PS3 hits $300. And why not? If it truly has a 10 year life cycle, what's the rush?
It may be that the hard-core gamer are the early adopters, but the general public, though they may want the new systems, are simply not willing to pay the high prices.
Perceived value is a tricky thing. A Corvette Z06 outperforms cars that are 3X its sticker price, but still most people can't afford that luxury, and those that ...
Once upon a time, we had to play whatever Japan served up - which meant some great games like the Nintendo franchises, and without Japan, we would not be where we are today.
That said, Western gamers are changing their taste in games - the FPS, the Western RPG(Oblivion) etc...and the western market is growing. Japan is no longer the only source of great games. So while, I'd never say their developers or gaming audience no longer matter, they no longer hold the power to direct...
as a space-themed Oblivion(but more story driven)...and that thought has me beginning to drool...
This guy was selling amazing paintings of licensed cars - mostly Corvettes and various Ferraris. I doubt he had GM's and Ferrari of N.A's approval - or that their approval was required.
Why would a videogame be protected and a car not be. The car design itself may not be copywrited as we see many no-name cars that resemble real cars in games like GTA, Crackdown and Burnout, but surely, the Chevy and ferrari logos are copywrited. Any attorneys out there to clarify?
I've bought all Oblivion downloads - except the horse armor, the GRAW chapter 2 expansion and a few gamer pics...no XBLA games...
that this has turned into a fanboy war. Some of you are the reason that the term "gamer" perpetually has a negative connotation to the general public.
I guess I just don't get it. I have enough stress and anxiety with career and family without tainting my chosen hobby with senseless negativity. - A hobby that is supposed to help relieve stress.

is how one's motivations and emotions can be misread - and furthermore wrongly assumed based on the bias of the reader.
Sir, you read too much into my post. I am not impatient. Childish? Sometimes, definitely. Its part of my charm.
God of War looked great, no doubt, but it was the gameplay and fighting system - and cool monsters that made it an instant classic.
I'm glad this game is looking good, but I'm more interested in the story, fighting system etc.
If you make them(great games), they will sell - and they are. Its as simple as that.
You can get away with bashing MS and Sony, but Nintendo...you can criticize, but certainly don't bash.
Yeah, you can turn on traction control, ABS and a line on the track that helps you accelerate, brake and find the best line through a turn.
these things do make a huge difference - helping quite a bit!
Quote by Sydney Poitier's character to his father in "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"
"Blacks in Gaming", "Essence Awards" - these things perpetuate the notion of separation and difference in the minds of the people.
People need to learn from Tony Dungy who tried to take the spotlight of the media off of the fact that he was a BLACK head coach who won the SuperBowl.
The focus should have been on a great coach and an ev...
Gears of War - everyone remember the early pics of a Locust Grunt?
These tools are exactly what the PS3 needs - the tools/middleware to make game making easier - like what MS has done with the 360.
This is the first step - yes, Sony may currently be a bit behind in this area, but we will be seeing, or rather playing the fruits of all of this soon.
Its a great time to be a gamer, boys!
I think that is my point. It is a very cool idea that I'm sure I'll check out when I do get a PS3, but I'm still waiting on those killer apps before I do get one.
I've said this before - no one buys a 360 to play LIVE Arcade, though it is a cool feature that most 360 owners use to some degree. Home is the same. I don't see it as a feature that would make me prefer the PS3 over anything else. But I could be wrong.
There have been articles here that talk about ...
So its not another Fable, where we were expecting to be blown away due to the hype, and ended up feeling disappointed although it was a very good game by any measure.
In Forza, the amount of customization was almost overwhelming - tuning your car for each specific race - gearing, downforce, tire pressure, and maxing out horsepower, but keeping it under the specific race limits - like "under 400 horses"
The handling is realistic, and taking damage really affects handling - bang into a wall, and you will need to compensate for your car pulling to one side for the remainder of the race, and damage is subtracted from race earnings.

I know they need to be very aware of what the other companies are doing, how they are performing, but just keep it to yourself. It just looks petty and insecure.
