and in australia it will be 999$ for the premium system, I can't imagine what those poor folks will pay to get everything else...

it is a dangerous move by sony, and if blu-ray fails, the ps3 goes with it, and pretty much sony completely. which I hope doesn't happen, as competition will make all 3 work better/harder for our business.

don't forget, people who do want to upgrade to the next-gen movie format, can already get an HDdvd player, for cheaper than what a ps3 costs. so for those who aren't gamers, there is no reason to pay the extra 100-200$.
and unfortunately the blu-ray movies are getting bad reviews so far when compared to hddvd.
I see some of the other studios following warner bros path and offer movies in both formats, just to make sure they are not taking a risk on being on the losing si...
because if they let microsoft have a 2 holiday season lead, it would be pretty much a nail in the coffin
the industry was expecting people to want to upgrade to a next gen movie format around 2008. but because sony and toshiba couldn't agree on a unified format, analysts have now pushed it back to 2010, as people will not want to get stuck with the latest "beta" or "laserdisk" player.
