What exactly did you expect? Saves reside on on your Switch as they do now, optional backup in the cloud. You still have your saves if you don't pay for the service. If you want a backup, then you pay, plain and simple. I don't understand why this is an issue for anyone. There is a very small chance that your Switch breaks while you have a laps in the online service. Are you really going to use the cloud save anyway?

Sounds like every ROM site defender. It's way too hard to get the games legally, so it justifies stealing. JK

Time will tell. I agree though, I don't care about NES games. The only game I play online ever is maybe Mario Kart, but I could do without. I don't really play Splatoon anymore, but maybe one of these days I might pick it up again. Not interested in Smash. With all that uninterest, I still have this lingering doubt that I'll either miss out on some kind of perk or deal, free games, or something good. At the very least, I'll have supported and gained the right in my mind ...

Your saves reside on your Switch. The cloud save is a backup of that one. People act like they will lose everything if they unsubscribe to the online service, while the save is still very much the same as it is now, on their Switch. That's why this is a non issue. It's not going to be free, so either pay or just keep the save that you already have locally. If you forget to pay and you lose your sub, its really easy just to resub and the cloud magically will have your save again a...

Not having these work with other games or without the online service is certainly lame and overpriced for what you get, but they also are not at all required. your joycons or pro controller will work just fine. I personally have no intention on ever holding an NES controller ever again.

For all this talk about a company getting a pass or not. Let's be honest here, Nintendo rarely gets a pass, especially on N4G. No one deserves a pass, but no one deserves to be given a hard time to stating something isn't that big of a deal. That isn't defending a company, that's not getting outraged about stupid things. Just because what you are outraged about, doesn't phase me at all, doesn't mean they are getting a pass. It just means I disagree with you one th...

first of all it isn't cloud saves, it is cloud backup. no one is going to lose their saves unless their Switch breaks while unsubbed. Literally no issue here

I see your point, but it isn't something that people should be outraged about. really a non issue, except for those that won't be online at all, even to the eshop for week long stretches.

Only in the occasion where you will be offline for more than a week. how common is that?

2710d ago 0 agree3 disagreeView comment

Do you really think you have to check in. Just being online is all that will be required. Check in is automatic

Not going to convince anyone, but this is a cloud backup of the save files on your system, right? You stop paying them, your saves live on where they are supposed to on your Switch. You subscribe again and you cloud save resyncs with your Switch and all is well again. How many people will EVER need to recover from a cloud save, anyway. In the event that your switch breaks during a lapse in subscription, there is some concern, I guess. If that happens, that’s your fault.

This isn't a change for the sake of change. This is the first truly hybrid system. Perhaps the current wheel doesn't meet the needs of a hybrid system in Nintendo's eyes. It is their solution to a voice chat that they believe was necessary to work with a hybrid system. It might be OK after all is said and done. If not, then the next Switch system might resolve some of the issues. I'll still remain open minded and try new things, provide feedback.

There are only two options here related to voice chat and other features like the backseat chat and lobbies, notifications if your switch isn't on, etc.:

The best thing to do here is to try it as designed with an open mind, provide CONSTRUCTIVE feedback in the app, and watch the service adapt and improve over time. People will adapt to this(which I believe many will or they will find alternatives, plain and simple.

How many times has Nintendo show...

I do play some games on my phone. I have a Switch. My PC is terrible and I rarely turn it on. Not playing 3DS or Wii U anymore. My son took his XBone to college. That leaves me with a Switch and my phone. I would still be counted as multiplatform in this study. I guess this survey is important if you are a mobile developer.

There is nothing here about multiple gaming consoles. Since this report concludes that 90% have smartphones and that is included in this multiplatform number. That's the survey I want to see becuase I believe that single console owners are more prevalent then we all realize. I myself have a Switch, but me having a Wii U and a 3DS doesn't count as they aren't current systems and I'm not playing those. My son took his xbox with him to college so I don't have that anymore...

I'm ok with lumping all of the currently available systems together and calling them current gen, but call it that instead of referrring to 8th generation which is the Wii U. Switch is 9th generation, which is a fact. ps5 and and xbox whatever if you don't want to call them 9th gen is fine. call them 10th and move on. I think the ps4 pro and xbonex are enough of an upgrade to justify it truth be told. At least be accurate on something.

I'm waiting/hoping for Disc golf. There is a thriving international competitive scene and it would work very well

Chess makes sense as it hasn't changed in a very long time, but that isn't really fun to watch.

If the olympic committee came up with a game of their own that didn't need to be licensed, it could be an option, but I can't see using a licensed game in this venue as it doesn't translate in the future very well. sports haven't changed that much in decades, or longer, which is what makes them viable for olympic competition. It would require the same game, the same controllers, the same equpmen under tight scrutiny for hacking. Simply not doable.
