As far as I'm concerned, the ONLY time this matters is if your Switch breaks while you are unsubscribed which would be extremely unlikely. Since you cannot access your saves while unsubscribed, is it really any different than what people were thinking would happen in the first place?
I wasn't aware you could trade items in Splatoon 2. I'm sure they are working on how to get cloud backup to work for splatoon 2, but it just was way more complicated then original...

I don't think they did. If they did, this wouldn't have happened as Nintendo would have made the necessary adjustments for work. I think these are just users in China using imported Switches. I just found an article earlier this year, that said Nintendo had no plans to launch in China this year.

I believe the uproar about this detail is worse. Nintendo is vague on the time before deletion, nothing has been confirmed. A feature you pay for stops working if you stop paying. Seems reasonable to me. The cloud is just backup of the local save. if you re up your sub service, you can backup again to the cloud. zero issues. If someone breaks their switch while lapsed on the sub service, that's just rotten luck.

I find it surprisingly OK. The app isn't that cumbersome to use. Some sort of invite system would be nice though.
You can be upset all you want, but let the opposite be true that I don't have to be upset. This outrage is ridiculous and just as ridiculous is the outrage that I'm not outraged.
Maybe this was Nintendo's ploy to ensure the best of the best try to hack so they can attempt to beef up security further. :)

My opinion after actually trying it. The NES games are OK, made cooler with the option to play online. The represent much of the beginning of our love for gaming. There will be more games in the future, of that I have no doubt.

The games they chose to start with represent the beginning of genres and beginnings of IPs that are iconic. there truly is something for everyone. everyone that cares about NES games that is. I, personally, would never buy any of these games on the eshop if they were available as I have too many other games to play, but I'll revisit them here. I'll have fun playing these online with my kid that is in college and using the voice chat in app isn't cumbersome at all imo.
Me either. I had Wii and Wii U. Wii had some cool features but it was very minimal and tried something different.
The Wii U had Miiverse, which I sorely miss, the mii plaza or whatever was kind of cool. Many games used miiverse, which made things feel alive. They were free, but not necessarily better. Online for Marko Kart 8 is way better now, voice chat actually works
This was a fair an unbiased video. If you are hoping for more, than you aren't doing the same. Not everyone feels the need to rage online about the smallest of issues.
It's worth $20 just to support Nintendo, give the benefit of the doubt, and hope things improve. If it doesn't, then don't renew. I've wasted more on a bad meal that gave me the shits. I still went back to them later though.
Messaging should be there, for sure. I thought that was the point of the app that you could set up gaming sessions while not connected to your Switch and having everything in one place. I have no idea why it wouldn't be there. There are friends(who you text to), social media friends(not really friends, but whatever) and there are Switch friends(maybe also not friends, but could be), I don't mind the app for voice chat.
For $20, I'm OK with the features as offered, I just don't really plan to play anything online and I'm passing on Smash. I have two games that can be played online, Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 2, and I can do without it. My only complaint is that I have to pay $35 just to have online for me and my daughter on the SAME Switch. Not sure I can justify at that price, so I'm going to pass on it altogether. I Hope she doesn't suddenly have the urge to play splatoon 2 again. Wh...
