lol I'd forgotten about the Gaping Dragon's entrance. At first the head comes out, and I was thinking "Shit that's big..." then the rest out him comes out "WHAT THE FUCK!!"
About the review: "character interaction, quests and a backstory have all been left in a putrid mess far behind." I just finished Dark Souls and, did we play the same game?? There's plenty of character interaction with the NPCs who pop up here and there during ...
Where's the hate in my comment?? If you read any, you're the one with a problem.
Agree with both of you. There's nothing I hate more this gen than games that FORCE you to do thing one and only one way--especially when that's clearly an illogical way.
Dark Souls has practically limitless possibilities in terms of builds and equipment use, weapons and armor. I wish my friends played it too, because I'd be really interested to see the differences and similarities between our playthroughs.
Same as they aways say: 1000000x MLAA, anaisotropic filtering, and a dozen other word I can't remember or get right, and that I definitely don't care about.
@Regi
I don't like triggers or pedals on my controller. Both have way too much travel distance to be useful. Actually, for a gas pedal... the trigger shape would be good! Allow for more precise throttle. But you're right, the "pedal" shape is too slippery. And for shooters, I hate games that use R2 to shoot. Travel distance = delayed shot. R1 is much better for shooting.
I never buy used games. Supporting devs is great, but I don't do it for the principle. I just don't like the thought of buying a game someone else's had his way with before me! I love to buy games on sale though, and when they get price drops. Buying games for 20$ just feels great!
I thought that at first, but I'm at the final boss of DS now and I have to say, the scope (ambition) of the game blew me away. Dark Souls's world is *huge*, and extremely varied. Of course I haven't read any reviews mention that, because most of them probably didn't bother making it past the Gargoyles boss, which are at the end of the first and arguably the most boring setting of the game.
Many of the areas in Dark Souls are among the most impressive settings ...
Not if you're a bigger pain in his.
See what I did there? ;)
Stay behind him and, when he sticks his pole in the ground, take a few steps back because that's a fireball that reaches all around him. Take a few shots at his ass here and there, when it's safe, and he'll eventually go down. Not a big deal.
Update: read in a forum, the issue is that you can't backstab when you have your shield up, or immediately after lowering it. Try lowering your shield a split second earlier than you do now before backstabbing someone, and you shouldn't have any problems anymore. Of course now the issue becomes that your enemy's attack might magically swing around and hit you all the way behind his back while your shield is down, which also happens all too often.
Happens to me often. I'll be circling around an enemy until I'm facing his back and have my split-second window to backstab him, then for no reason my character decides not to attack. I hit R1 again but the window's gone.
He means a real steering wheel! For his car.
Easy item to find. Why don't you tell me where the Covetous Silver Serpent Ring is? I could use that one.
I'm over 50 hours in now, and I've also had a few issues with the controls here and there. There's the *very* delayed actions, where I'll hit O to roll, get hit a few times by enemies, then my guy will decide to roll when I don't want him to anymore. Same goes for attacking, healing and, even more annoying because the timing is crucial for this one, backstabbing. But worse than the delayed actions, are just random actions I didn't even prompt. Those are rare, and I was...
Yeah, I just joined the Darkmoon covenant and I haven't been able to invade anyone yet.
I was really hoping they'd improve the online from Demon's Souls (I loved PvP in DS, but let's be honest, the lag was ridiculous; phantom range, ridiculous backstabs, practically impossible to interrupt someone healing, etc). I hope they fix this, because PvP makes an amazing meta-game in the Souls series--once PvE isn't challenging/ rewarding enough, just go for other...
I think the difficulty is just knowing what level you should be for the area you're in. Because it's so easy to wander into areas you shouldn't be yet, and stubbornly push on (I did that... a lot!). But if you're at the right level, sure, Dark Souls isn't so hard--as long as you're always playing smart and paying attention.
Why does the online fail so hard?
I've only been invaded twice so far (I only ever go in body form to kindle new bonfires), and both times went smoothly. I'm not equipped for PvP yet, I'm focusing on PvE right now, so I don't really know much about the online right now. The first invader killed me--I was so surprised I got invaded I couldn't gather my wits to fight back! But the second one I killed... I'm not equipped for PvP, so I just raised my shiel...
Demon's Souls was, and still is, one of my favorites games this gen, if not ever.
At first, I didn't like Dark Souls very much. But the more I played it, the more I loved it. 50 hours* in now, and now I can easily say Dark Souls blows Demon's Souls out of the water.
Dark Souls is easily one of the best games I've every played.
*Yes, I got the game Tuesday... yes, I have no life right now, and Dark Souls hooked me hard.
Hell yeah I was! But it's all in the past now--I just don't pre-order anymore. Lesson learned!
Man, can't trust anyone with shipping pre-orders. Only way to be sure you'll get it day 1 is if you pre-order from a store where you can pick it up yourself. And then there's no point, since it means 2 trips to the store instead of 1. That's why I don't pre-order anymore. Best Buy sent my copy of Arkham Asylum a whole month late back then, and by the time I received it the Uni semester was well underway. Not cool, BB, not cool.
I didn't know about the Drake Sword until it was too late to get it. So I had to push on with my shitty Battle Axe+4! I guess I got lucky when I returned to the Asylum, because the knight dropped his Dark Knight Sword, and I kicked ass with it pretty much the whole game! That Sword at +5, with a bit of stat scaling, does 450+ damage, all physical--so enemies resistant to magic, fire, or lightning still take a big hit. It's a large sword, but once I got used to it being a little slower...
