Thats basically it. Matchmaking is Host/Client while Firefight and Coop are Peer to Peer. This is something the majority of N4G seems to not understand. A dedicated server is simply a machine that hosts the game but no one plays on that machine so its DEDICATED to being a server, not half server/half player. Most games are listen servers, meaning someone is a host and is also playing the game (COD series, Halo series, Uncharted 2, and many popular others).

Come back of the century. With 4 agrees and 1 disagree. Cream of the crop here on N4G.
About 3/4 of the posters above me clearly don't read articles and just start commenting off a title and cliffnote. I actually like this article got posted, now I have a good list of users I can now know comment and don't read shit.
I just bought the Penumbra 3 pack on steam for 20 bucks after playing this demo. I remember playing the Penumbra tech demo like 3 years ago and never knew it turned into 3 games! Once I beat the 3 pack, I am gonna hop on steam and buy Amnesia.
I dont get scared from games, but Dead Space made me jump alot, BUT then I played the Amnesia demo...

Cryostasis has some of the best water caustics ever. It is actually done with the physics engine and not just fancy shader effects:

Well said DMason, +bubble. You upped my hope for the community of N4G. Fair criticism of both sides. Pledging loyalty to a company and ignoring faults is so ignorant and lazy thinking it makes me sad.
Thanks for the replies. MW2 is an awesome game (but there are some serious flaws), I loved MW1. MW2 just has too many caterings for the unskilled:
noobtubes
No more shotgun class, now secondary weapons allowed to be more than pistols such as ANOTHER noobtube or a shotgun
tactical insertion/camping+nuke killstreak totally destroys team/objective based game modes (I love SnD, not so much now)
Many maps are conducive to noobtubi...
I usually choose between 2 classes.
I almost always use:
UMP w/ Silencer
USP w/ Tactical Knife
Scavenger Pro
Cold Blooded Pro
Ninja Pro
Stun Grenade
Throwing Knife
I actually like shooting people more than using explosives...And throwing a knife across the map is a great "fuck you" to other players, haha.
And my sniper class:
M21 w/ Silencer
USP w/ Sile...
I second BlamMAN 100%
Facts/unbiased advice in N4G comments is a rare breed. Tomshardware community is the best, in fact I have a thread in there right now with a question I just posted today :)
With Deus Ex 3 coming up I wish they would have allowed the option that when ever interacting with computers in the game (if it's anything like Deus Ex 1, which from the leaked game play it is) you can put you controller on your lap or whatever, and while still sitting, use your hands to navigate the game's computer systems like minority report. Also maybe allowing picking locks the same way, just have kinect zoom like the xbox live cam can, just tracking on the arms and fingers.
Same here. If there was any game I think was the best of all time (for when it released). It would be Deus Ex. There still hasn't been a game that has nailed the hybrid genre so well, not to mention I think the story and the concepts it made you think about made it an "intelligent" man's game and one of the best stories ever. So many topics discussed in the game, it was amazing.
Here is to hoping this third installment is a repeat of the first game, not the ...
"By moving your face PARALLEL to the screen, you can change your point of view (field of view). This makes possible a sensation as though you are actually inside your chosen car."
Basically, the camera detects you leaning left and right. You dont turn your head. So if you move your head to the left or right of the center of view that the camera sees, it turns the head in game.
I think it will be. I think steam is to PS3 as Windows Live games is to 360. You have a game like shadowrun on 360 allowing you to play with PC gamers and invite them too (The PC gamer has to logged on Windows live games to see the invite I believe).
This goes along with steam allowing "cross platform" gaming with PC and Mac. Which I find hilarious since a Mac IS a PC with just a different OS. They are both the same architecture (x86/x64), intel, nvidia, blah blah b...
You guys realize why MS/Xbox has done it right? MS is competing with steam on the PC with Windows live games. They also are selling games like steam (DD=digital distribution) and allow you to be on the same friends list as xbox players.
Ever heard of shadowrun? You can be on the 360 and play against PC players with that game since xbox live is just the console section and windows live games is the PC section. MS won't go with Valve's steam because Microsoft has their ...
Yea, on Digital Foundry they did a frame rate anaylsis on the original SoTC on the PS2, and it ran like crap cause they pushed the hardware so much:
"Shadow of the Colossus runs with an uncapped frame-rate. In very, very rare occasions, you may even hit 60FPS, but as the tests reveal, in its original form 15 to 20FPS is the norm."
It runs almost always correctly, there are just rare moments that instead of framerate dropping, it stays 60 but the gam...
Last I heard, that's the case. Some claim when GT5 ships it will be 1920x1080. I haven't seen any articles or links to suggest that though. Have to wait to see what is discovered this November. Only things that I know are 1080P for sure is the garage and possibly replays (though I think replays are still 1200x1080P but run at 30FPS with a big jump in graphics from normal gameplay)
It would be AWESOME if they remastered these games. I have the emulator and SoTC and play it in 1080P and AA and AF. It's awesome. However, Because of the way the game renders, I get good framerate, generally 60FPS, but the game itself slows down. It's like the game goes into slo-mo/bullet time. I altered as many settings as I could, like dropping frames which is what I thought it WASN'T doing but never could fix it.
SoTC was my favorite PS2 game by far. Would gre...
Calm down, I mainly game on my PC that I built ( http://pfcdn.net/site/t/pro... myself and have been building since I was 12 with intel 486's. I own my PC and a 360 and I game on my friend's PS3 all the damn time. It's people like you who need to stop ruining N4G by not being a total dick.
I was SPECIFICALLY talking about bandwidth. I understand there might be ...
I totally agree, resolution isn't everything. Battlefield bad company 2 looks jaggier than COD games because it lacks AA while COD games have AA. But battlefield is running at 720P, nearly twice the pixel count of COD games (cod4-mw2, possibly black ops) which are at 600P. Gotta find a Balance. 2xMSAA goes a long way and with Reach being almost 720P with AA and with HDR and other effects, pretty damn cool.
Though I am still more impressed with Crysis 2 and especially Rag...
You can swap what they are saying with any other FPS and it still sounds like a "flaw":
In Killzone 2 you run and kill helghast after helghast, sure there are different enemies but its the same ones over and over. There is a small portion of a game where you are in a mech and vehicles, like the tank, here and there.
In MW2 you run and kill bad guy after bad guy, sure there are different ones, be it a russian, afghanis or a somalian. But its the same...
