It's interesting to watch as MS attempts to buy into the Surface Tablet Market. With Apple so staunchly holding market share, despite their crappy overpriced junk, the rest of the competitive companies trying to break into the market have to dump money into the monster that is advertising just to pull sales to recoup initial investments. There is no way anybody producing a tablet would be in the black with Apple so ingrained in consumer minds.

But that brings me to my poi...

Their cloud is much more than just an ansillary gimmick for XB1 and adjusting their business strategy to compensate for where they believe the market is heading positions them ahead of the curve in terms of what they want to do with their cloud as well as what they can already do.

MS has spent substntially more money developing their cloud services, I think they would have a better grasp of its potential and the direction they want to go with it. If they tell me they can boost the power of XB1 with the cloud, I'll believe it is their goal. I wont blindly accept that they have... but it must be taken with a grain of salt either way until they can illustrate it in action measurably improving the capabilities of their device.

Game development is difficult... unless,

-You recycle the Game Engine
-Employ the same Plot Structure
-Re-skin maps

They need minimal level designers, developers, programmers, or writers... they re-shade the game and introduce gimmicks.

The issue with the franchise is stagnation, they need to introduce a new game mechanic that makes the game more valuable.

*edit* They don't necessarily need to introduce a full open-world, but they need to at least make an attempt to create a new experience... and this article illustrated how steadfast they are against change.

Playing a game on varying difficulties isn't a reason for many people to play a game again.

Im sure both companies spent a lot of money in strategic planning to figure out what consumers thought would be the "right" price to pay for the new product.

Every company does it when they release a new product, unless there is a proven pricing structure in place. Looking at the mobile phone market here. Because MS and Sony delease new competing products theh have to make reasonable assumptions to what their counterpart will do. MS thought wrong and stands alone mo...

As much as I would love to be playing HL3, I know that I want the best game possible. I hope they take their time and dont rush a product.

I agree that as a micro ftp it won't sell an xbox, but it certainly would get it turned on once in a while... especially when the same subscription that is paid for it now will continue long after the console is no longer found on store shelves.

The 360 will absolutely be "vibrant" after the Xbox One has launched. A lot of gamers won't be making the switch to the next Gen right away. Especially at the high price points, manufacturing hiccups, and small game ...

Because it's a on a Microsoft Console?

Or, because you disagree that a popular free-to-play game utilizing micro transactions housed on a multiplayer network that will be supported for at least a decade has no chance to add any value and re-playability for gamers?

I'm going to argue that some games have a following loyal enough and passionate enough that they do everything they can to preserve the experience.

I'm thinking of Tribes 2 on PC specifically, so maybe it's true that a console cannot be sustained historically... but with XB Live & PS+ the ability to match make could more easily be supported long after the console's have been phased out.

Minecraft is another example of a PC game, with avai...

I did it because my unit had a great air flow around it, open window, and I had no intention of playing Fable 2 for a week just so I could afford to buy something.

I agree that a dashboard setting for auto idle/off would be an excellent feature. It may already exist, but I've never left my consoles on accidentally.

PS2 did not destroy the Dreamcast. Sega destroyed the Dreamcast.

Sega alienated their developers and stopped supporting systems that were still being developed for... burning money for those that made their consoles valuable to consumers.

Dreamcast should have beaten out PS2 that console Generation based upon console specs, but their poor business plan and implementation doomed them to be just a memory.

Sega originated as an Arcade Game Comp...

I meant no disrespect to Nintendo consoles, I just don't see them in the same light that I do the Sony and MS Counterparts.

Great systems, always have been, with some really great games. I am excited to see what they do with the next Smash Bros

I am pretty sure the PS3 could be left on for days as well, I don't think they dropped off in quality from PS2 to PS3. I know many suffered from RROD w/ their XBox360's but I was able to leave my Xbox 360 Elite on for days on end without ever having an issue.

It would be nice to have both consoles this gen be worry free in terms of their durability and quality. I don't think there will be an issue with PS4 and I believe MS had learned from last generations hiccups...

Why is there such an emphasis on the need for a "gamer" to be in charge of a business division?

I fail to see how somebody who doesn't plays video games will fall short in terms of establishing business model, sound decision making, goal setting, strategy building, implementation, and marketing approach.

The job is to make a successful product, insight into a gamers mind is great and I understand how one could look at them as sharing our vision,...

Anonymous is known for their sense of humor, and they do so love to protect the consumer. MS & Sony need to make sure they don't piss them off or we may see some creative deactivation's online as well as some great images of monuments sitting in CEO's front yards.

I was under the impression that the sharing required an hourly internet connection to verify when accessed on a console that the copy/license wasn't natively held. I never saw anything stating otherwise, and I was following it closely.

Can you link me to a release stating that it only gave access to a trial version? I am not saying you are wrong, but I haven't seen anything on it... and since MS backtracked it isn't necessarily relevant but a lot of people seem to...
