The only thing that truly bothers me about this shift into exclusive digital distribution (and why I just can't bring myself to agree with you) is that it is IN NO WAY for our convenience as consumers.

It's one thing to try and promote a different market for gaming. Digital distribution could honestly be a wonderful thing for many people...as a SERVICE, NOT A PRODUCT. And yet, there has been absolutely no attempt to adjust the retail model accordingly.

Where!?

I don't really see it that way. Most people were never going to buy these games in the first place, and yet a great deal of them could STILL potentially make EA money through microtransactions and DLC.

You know...as opposed to a refund that would guarantee a loss for their broken, piece of crap game.

But the point is that he's talking about a VERY specific criteria.

Sure, if you're looking to make an ultra-realistic, some would say "cinematic," experience and want a character to express detailed facial emotion when the camera is zoomed in ridiculously close, then sure, you could probably benefit from the added horsepower. But that doesn't change the fact that developers have been conveying emotion through their characters in other ways for many, many...

Sadly this has happened gradually with EVERY artistic medium that has ever existed.

Even sadder, though, is that video gaming presents a rather unique opportunity for publishers to screw over consumers more than any other medium due to it's intimate ties to digital distribution.

I'm not so jaded as to suggest that we should just give in, because I honestly believe that even losing battles are worth fighting, but make no mistake...it's a losing ba...

It's going to say "you sure are an asshole, EA, but by golly have another hundred mill on the house."

Sad, but....gotta keep it real.

Yeah, I never thought I'd say this, but...I think I've beaten enough people with dildos for a good long while.

At the end of the day, it's really a non-issue one way or the other.

To suggest that characters like Princess Peach and Zelda embody the "empowered woman" archetype is as ridiculous as claiming that there could NEVER be an instance in which women were unable to overcome every obstacle set upon them and had to accept the assistance of a man.

Think about the situation if Mario was a woman (let's call her "Mary-O" and she is the most ...

I don't disagree.

Also she is able to form her thoughts into coherent sentences, so that's sort of icing on the cake.

I am VERY happy to see that even the major publications are not trying to deny the travesty that is this game's current form.

I thought for sure we'd be seeing a bunch of sites spinning the game's more atrocious design flaws with their usual BS.

I suppose there is at least a sliver of integrity left in even the most corporate-driven sites.

Glad to hear they put some effort into Isaac's character with this one.

So sad though. They crapped all over the story in 3. Made Isaac a lifeless automaton. Gave Ellie a boob job and delegated her to "the love interest." Made the actual narrative borderline incoherent.

So much of the game ruined in the name of ticking a few boxes on some ridiculous, corporate "AAA ACTION GAME" checklist that was supposed to "save" the series...

Well, you could just pay the 14.99 per month. It's still a competent mmo, really. Nothing outrageously great or anything, but it's at least worth playing through a couple of the storylines with a few friends.

I feel sorry for the folks addicted to this game. It's one of the many boils on the hindquarters of the industry that needs to be lanced.

Unfortunately I gotta agree. There's just nothing all that exciting happening with that tech.

Plus, I have loved Nintendo with a passion for many years, but even I've been having trouble getting excited for "another Zelda" or "another Mario" after this many years, solid as they always seem to be when they arrive.

I'm really just more concerned about the lack of variety in our games nowadays, and this new Lara, whether one believes sexism is an issue in the industry or not, is at least a decent change of pace from the buxom, ridiculously proportioned, inappropriately garbed female characters we get in 90% of our games these days.

And yes, the same can be said about male characters. Only when it's about male characters it doesn't have the added controversy of being a "s...

THIS is what they could have done as an apology. They could have fixed the goddamn game.

And yet instead, what we are going to get is a "free" game that most people would never have bought from their service in the first place, but could still potentially net them a profit from all the ridiculous dlc and microtransactions.

Of course we could also just take their advice and stop having so much fun with their games that we're breaking them.

It's got to be like some giant trolling joke at this point, seriously. There is a point when delaying goes from a necessary evil to an unnecessary insult, and I think they may have crossed that line, unfortunately.

I hate to say it, but the story and characters have lost pretty much all their impact after this much time waiting.

4847d ago 0 agree3 disagreeView comment

Because saying "the always online thing is crap" is not a question. I don't think they would agree to a sit down with a publication that intended to call them out.

They already know that a very...VERY large portion of gamers are pissed off. But they are also probably aware that given enough time and enough empty apologies, people are willing to accept even the most tyrannical bullshit these companies are willing to shovel at us.

These are all mmo's. I thought for sure Daikatana would be on that list. Still not a bad list, though.

I'm going to have to play the devil's advocate here. The problem is not that I mind the cuteness (though I'll probably never be very accepting of the "sexy loli" trend), but rather that I feel that it is often thrown into a lot of Japanese games regardless of context or meaning. And it's overused to the point that it has become RIDICULOUSLY stale. It would be the same as saying that there's nothing wrong with Western developers saturating the market with rugged, ...
