You missed the point. Like most people, you have been programmed to always transform this into an issue of sex.
I like big breasts. I like them a lot. I have no problem with busty, super-sexualized women in video games, per se, but rather that they are far and away the absolute most overused characterization for women in video games. It's the same as any other cliche or trope in the industry. The fact that characters like the elf are a rarity should demonstrate that point...
I, too, hate gaming journalism these days, though probably for different reasons. Gaming journalists (and journalists in general) have a tendency to cherry pick very controversial topics that COMPLETELY waylay the real issues behind many of these debates.
The boobs, for example. It's been done to death. I understand that games like these are made specifically to appeal to the male demographic (and why should men be responsible for portraying women in the first place?), bu...
Love or hate the game....that's a pretty sweet cover.
Christ, I feel like I've gone back in time. When has anyone said "coon" in the last 20 or 30 years and HASN'T just been referring to a literal raccoon?
Reviews are not irrelevent. People just continue (and will always continue) to staunchly insist that review scores are an objective ranking for games.
Reviews are completely...I repeat, COMPLETELY subjective articles. The only real attributes that can be objectively stated in a review are those that are quantifiable, such as number of polygons, sound quality, blah blah blah. There is no way to objectively prove that Mario controls wonderfully, or that Snake's ass looks gr...
I will never be a proponent of censorship. I feel like people have every right to create whatever they want in the world of art. So in this way, yes, I think the Kotaku article was ridiculous and childish.
Conversely, though, I also think it's funny that people are trying to pass these designs off as anything other than hyper-sexualized fanservice.
See, the problem here is NOT that hyper-sexualization exists in gaming (everyone likes a little sexy time e...
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the genre has found a niche in the indie market, but at the same time, I don't see it going much farther than that. And to be honest, I think most fans and developers are perfectly fine with that.
I know I am.
Yeah, that would piss me off SO much getting a letter like that.
"Thanks for all your hard work in insuring our continued profitability...now get the HELL out."
Dat space magic, man. Dat space magic.
I was gonna say, that looked MUCH worse than I remember. It's like PSone era textures if you don't install, apparently. Looks real nice installed though.
...I had a lot of problems with the framerate in the original, and I still have problems with the framerate in Dark Arisen.
Plus there's STILL terrible dithering, pop-in and screen tearing, all things that could have been overcome with even a modest PC setup by today's standards.
Don't get me wrong. I LOVED this generation of consoles (this is not some console war BS), but at this point, they present a giant bottleneck for a lot of games these day...
Man...someone's got poopy diapers today, don't they?
I was worried at first, but then I saw the demo and things seemed as tough as ever. Planning, careful timing, and good old fashioned skill still seemed to be the highlight of the combat system.
As far as I can tell, the "accessibility" they're incorporating into the game involves mainly a more in-depth opening section and some "ease-of-use" tweaks to item and covenant management.
Yeah, it's Japanese devs doing western inspired RPG's. And ironically, they're doing it better than Western devs are these days.
Once you understand that the "fog" is actually kryptonite fog, then you start to realize that it is actually one of the greatest games ever created.
Some of my favorite voice over work was from two games from the early 2000's: Sacrifice and Legacy of Kain. I mean, how can you not recognize the talent in a cast like this:
Yeah, that's why I didn't back it on Kickstarter. And to be perfectly honest, I am increasingly more comfortable with that decision.
I disagree
Well, considering pretty much EVERYONE around him dies (and entire cities and ships burn), I've never really been all that concerned with the threat of the necromorphs. Like in most games, I just consider the protaganist to be exceedingly resourceful and well adapted to the given threat.
My real problem in DS3 was that they made Isaac about as interesting as a bag of hammers. In the second game he was a guilt-ridden mess, struggling with his sanity. In the third game, he ...
It is not "unrealistic" to dislike a real person for being an idiot, so why would it be "unrealistic" to dislike a character in a game for being an idiot?
I understand his role in the game...but I still despise him for his cowardice and idiocy.
No reason to get all elitist.
