The point is that the game attempts to curb the moral ambiguity so often inherent in video games these days by presenting real consequences for different actions.
It may not be perfect, but it certainly beats, let's say, Nico in GTAIV going on and on about getting out of the business and going straight...and then running over hundreds of pedestrians at the players behest without any real impact on Nico's characterization.
Game looks great, but they seriously need to get someone else to play.
If there is one thing you cannot fault the game for, it's the lack of amazing gameplay. It's quick, tight and very precise. It doesn't do many things new (then again, we're comparing it to Halo here), but what it does do, it does exceedingly well. The shooting is spot on.

Do any of these sites mention whether the game is better played on the 360 or ps3? I've seen videos for both and they both LOOK very similar, but I need the scoop on load times, slowdown and screen tearing.

Which is fine, honestly, but it should never be promoted as anything BUT a rental service because there is absolutely no concept of ownership. You are not paying them for the right of ownership of a product. You are paying them for the right to play with their product on their terms.
It also throws "concept of ownership" COMPLETELY out the window. You are at the mercy of the company through and through. It is literally a way of controlling the consumer.
I think he was referring to the recycling of the fantasy theme. Which, as mature and interesting as the characters are in GoT, the setting is still very much just standard fantasy fare.
Given the way he syles himself, he has a very poor perception of what "hip" is nowadays.
Say what you will about the actual games, Carmack is a programming genius.

I agree with his sentiments regarding stagnation in the industry, but I think he and many others have the wrong idea about the "mentality," of it all. It's not really about the guns.

It did some things right. I thought the combat, while mechanically the same in both, was a lot more visceral and fast in the second game. And the art style was definitely an improvement. And the characters were all pretty interesting too.
There was just something...unremarkable about the whole thing. It just seemed so much less epic and interesting than the first game.
