Senran Kagura is exploitative because it's a ridiculous premise. It's still being untrue to it's context, it just doesn't really pretend to present itself as art in the first place, much like pornography. It's only really presented as a masturbatory tool.

But look, I actually understand where you're coming from and I can't argue that America in general is backwards in it's perception of sexuality. I mean, in a perfect world we wouldn't slap...

@ronin4life
First of all, I SERIOUSLY doubt you actually played Catherine if that's what you got out of the game.

Secondly, I will never accept exploitation. If sexuality is incorporated organically into the context of the game, fine, I have absolutely no problem with it. It would be insulting if prostitutes dressed like Quakers in GTA. But I am not going to be goaded into purchasing a game simply because I like looking at some boobies bounce...and I DO like looki...

I couldn't disagree with that assessment more. For the most part, sexuality in video games is not portrayed maturely on EITHER side of the pond. That's the whole point. Sexuality is not a seemingly underaged girl with pink hair transforming into a "magical girl," or a woman warrior going to battle looking like a dominatrix or a beautiful, scantily clad archaeologist with massive implants jumping around caves unfettered.

When it's done maturely (as in Ca...

I think that the Star Wars controversy is steam-rolling the real humor of this interview...that is, 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand is one of his FAVORITE GAMES.

Well that's sort of the point. It's up to the journalists to refuse that kind of practice.

This whole BF3 beta "debacle" is just totally beyond me. Beta's are a TESTING TOOL, not some hipster way of playing games early.

Apparently people went into the beta thinking they would be playing a game free of bugs that was representative of the final product...which to me indicates that these people need to take another crack at gaming 101.

I agree with the author. It's seedy and underhanded, yes. But then EA is a corporation. No one expects them to be anything else and they are 100% within their rights NOT to release the game for early review at all.

The bigger problem is with the journalists that are manipulated by these corporations.

Holy shit. Time to resubscribe.

Yeah, I agree. I mean the gameplay is as good as it's ever been (if not very, very similar to the previous games) but the writing is just getting worse and worse.

She was a generic anime archetype. It never ruins any games for me, but it really is getting annoying that there HAS to be at least one of these characters in every JRPG released.

People want cheerleading. They don't want reviews. They want to be told exactly what they want to hear, regardless of whether or not they've even PLAYED THE GODDAMN GAME.

The PC version obviously looks much better on Ultra, but I don't think anyone really believed it was going to be toppled in the first place. Crytek is sort of to blame for the backlash for making ridiculous claims before the release.

It's still a very good port, but they literally claimed that the game was going to look BETTER on the consoles.

The question is NOT whether or not these companies are utilizing iffy sales tactics to sell games. They obviously are. But if you disagree with something a company has done, you don't turn around and employ seedy tactics of your own. You just DON'T BUY THE GODDAMN GAMES.

If you're not into the whole "morality" thing, think of it in terms of who you're actually affecting by pirating games. Think of the fact that a large percentage of these shady pract...

So in a nutshell, the justification is that we are entitled to these games free of charge because companies are charging us for a product that we are not obligated to purchase...and then charging us for DLC that we are, again, not obligated to purchase, because God forbid we simply don't play the games these vial companies are producing.

Gamers have some serious, SERIOUS entitlement issues. Jesus Christ.

If you don't agree with a developers sales tactics or the quality of their product, then you DON'T BUY their product. You are not somehow entitled to someone else's work simply because you are displeased with them.

It's cliche, but you are literally no better than they are. It's like trying to cure a burn with fire.

The emphasis has been shifted toward immersion and creating intricate universes as opposed to numbers, menus and stats. That's pretty much it. If anything, the "role-playing" aspects of these games are better than ever.

I'll have to disagree with you about the stories too. It's not as if Daggerfall or Morrowind were all that story intensive either, and Bioware is still producing some of the best written stories in the industry as far as I'm concerned...

I know it's not going to be a popular opinion now, but like I said, the novelty of it will wear off and I think a lot of people will begin to agree.

And I know there have been some original games announced, but Sony has REALLY been promoting the notion of PS3 games on a handheld. I just don't think that's the way developers should be thinking at all.

5362d ago 0 agree1 disagreeView comment

I hope to god this is not the direction developers are going to be working towards...I want ORIGINAL games on my handhelds, not console games that are better suited to a home-theater system. I mean, once the novelty of playing pint-sized ports wears off, gamers are going to want games built from the ground up to utilize the format's unique features.

If the PSP taught us anything (which obviously it didn't), ports and remakes are NOT the way to go in the handheld marke...
