@ sik. I don't think that it was. Reports were conflicting for a while and many indicated that it would go with a low all on chip solution, which would peg it as very similar to the Wii U (though stronger, surely).
This news is encouraging if its not just patent protecting and will actually be used.
This is encouraging as it reinforces the idea that they will be going with power next gen. We don't need another Wii U.

The 3DS is barely as powerful as a 2006 cellphone. That's a fact. Plus its outputting an image twice to render that faux 3D effect as well as outputting to a second screen.

I don't think that was on purpose, they had to cut their forecast by 30% as a result. They delayed it for "performance" reasons. Its because MH 4 was looking rough - only so much juice you can squeeze out of 3DS hardware.

@blitz. They deserve to have CoD rated as the average game with good MP that it is. 7/10 sort of material. What happened here is they had to gush over Black Ops 2, so they took out their hidden frustrations on an okayish Vita game (2 targets in one).
Once one reviewer starts the troll-bandwagon, they all hop on and try to outdo the other. I'm not a fan of CoD or shooters in general, but a 2/10 should be reserved for something that is unplayable and utterly broken. Strong personal dislike or a mismatch between value and price could net you a 5/10.

I played a demo at BestBuy for about 20m and the screen-tearing, lack of AA and lagging UI for a "next gen" box was utterly astonishing. The Wii U will be great for people who want Nintendo games in 720p HD (there are no 1080p games). And that's about it. If you're not into Nintendo franchises, you might as well pass. Unless you like paying full price for ports of so-so games from this gen (i.e. Ninja Gaiden 3).

Um, the CPU is a souped up triple-core Broadway chip. The PPU architecture it is using, is over 10 years old; same stuff from the Gamecube, just retooled. Its really sad that people spew off tech jargon without a full understanding of facts. And the RAM bandwidth is still awful, so that's your next biggest no-no, in terms of performance.

100% Agree. I love these new hunting games that actually have a story and some thought put into their world other than item acquisition and mini-games. I played about 20m of MH once and it just never grabbed me.
RO was good. SS and GE2 should be extraordinary.
