720p and struggles to maintain 20 FPS - dips to the low teens at times. A 360 port to boot. The "feel" of next-gen folks.
Not sure how people are still defending the decisions the suits at MS made for this $500 turkey. The (weak) hardware is clearly to blame and I wouldn't expect the forecast to improve all that much over this gen.
Edit @ below: It began development on the 360 and all the assets and such were ported to this gen. I would conside...
No excuse for 720p/ 30 FPS in a "next-gen" console - that was what we started with last gen as a standard. Particularly not one that is $100 more and has an accessory that inflates the price and that many - arguably - don't want and didn't as for. The only reason why we're even discussing this issue with any severity is because of the Stockholm syndrome infecting the gaming press at the moment.
If Sony had the 720p box, we wouldn't be hearing any of ...
This list is kinda fail without Nier. Or many of the YS games.
Its all about the "feel" and "experience" now. Don't you know? Let's not play "pixels", let's play games.
What a load of horse-s**t. Here we are 8 years since last gen with the same resolutions on one of the boxes. You can bet that if the situation was reversed and MS had the 1080p box, they would be shouting from the rooftops about "value" and how you get what you pay for.
This is the largest smokescreen t...
While the Xbox faithful were salivating at the last "PS4 Has CoD FPS Issues" article, the sensible among us knew that clearly the X1 version would suffer the same or worse fate. No way weaker, more complicated hardware would run that code more efficiently than a PS4 would.
I guess the faithful are back to chasing clouds and fapping over MisterXmedia's drivel for the time being.
Dead Rising 3, Crimson Dragoon and Ryse are not 1st party. That is a fact. Saying the word "fact" does not simply make a statement true. Except in my case, as I am correct. Games made by someone other than MS Studios are not 1st party. They are 2nd (or 3rd* added for clarity for the lazy readers and knee-jerk reactionists like Death) party and published and/ or funded by MS.
For your continued education regarding the gaming industry. You're welcome:
If you completely ignore Indies, perhaps. Even then what you said is the definition of "subjective". I for one, am looking forward to all the F2P and MMORPGs - Warframe, Warthunder, DCUO - many of which are available day one on PS4. Again, subjective, as they appeal to my tastes and I do not speak for society as a whole.
Adding an "in my opinion" to the beginning of your statements in the future would do you a world of good.
The price isn't too hot either. For that cost, you're better off building yourself a 15" gaming laptop.
One has a GPU that is significantly stronger on all fronts than the other. And its memory setup is faster and more efficient. Period. Don't know why no one in the mainstream media can seem to wrap their heads around this other than willful ignorance.
Omg, its called "marketing". Exploiting a competitor's weakness. Do you remember the "I'm a PC" ads? Companies exist to trade us goods and services for our money. They are not our friends. You are taking this way too personally.
@Zelda. The distinct difference is that they are comparing a Sony from a generation ago that was under entirely different management with the Sony today, which isn't the same creature at all.
Kutaragi, Sir Howard, Phil (over at MS now). Almost all of the old-guard has left and have been replaced with fresher, more frank (as frank as buisiness men can be) people. Not to mention the company as a whole has been humbled by their financial struggles against the Yen and their d...
Beautifully said. I came here to write something as scathing as this and saw that my work had already been accomplished.
Yes, the systemic problem with the industry at the moment is that we have enthusiast masquerading as journalists. People with no background, schooling or ethics to hold such a position. Essentially people no different than you, I or anyone else who frequents gaming sites. It is expected that they will be sloppy and emotional. It is expected that they will c...
Really? You're onto this scaler nonsense? You realize both the PS4 and X1 use the SAME basic scaler technology as their AMD 7X derivatives, don't you? First it was the cloud, then it was the secret dGPU, now its the magic of a scaler?
I'd ask you to stop, but your posts are pure comedy. They always bring a smile to my face.
P.S. Upscaling always looks worse. Always. That's the cost of stretching an image and interpolating data.
After almost a decade of the US+UK media fawning over MS, it will take a while for the paradigm shift.
Gamer-centric + more powerful + cheaper price tag = better than a TV box that also plays games.
MS only ever cared about gaming as a means to an end, and its hilarious that after their initial "vision" was revealed and the countless 180s that any reasonable person would still hold them in any esteem let alone pay more for less.

720p - upscaled - doesn't matter if you take your glasses off.
Next up: Albert Penello on "Ideal Viewing Distances for the X1"
My oh my, do the goalposts ever keep moving with some of you folk.
720p for a "next-gen" console in 2013 is embarrassing. Period. Its bad enough that 4K is out of the question for either machine, now one of the boxes is stuck in last gen resolutions. Sony spent their silicon budget wisely, MS m...
It's actually more like Assassin's Creed + Soul Sacrifice + Dark Souls. The "reality" in the game takes place in a modern era, and you "relive" past experiences via a currently unknown mechanic (something to do with technology). But like Soul Sacrifice, your character retains the loot + levels they acquire while past-diving.
In any event, it looks amazing. One of my most anticipated next-gen titles. I love MMORPGs, but their mechanics and systems a...
@Nukeitall
PC version is downscaled? Did I actually just read that? Wow that is some AAA delusion there lad.
They have more launch window games and console exclusives than MS. The quality or preference that you seem to be arguing is entirely subjective. Personally, I love the variety of F2P (Planet side 2, Warframe, Warthunder) and unique indie titles on offer in addition to the standard multiplat and exclusive AAA stuff.
Really? A Vita price drop and almost two dozen games announced for Vita + PS4? And an actual release date? What the Hell would they have to do to win in this man's mind then?
Assets are developed on PCs, first and foremost before being run through any console development environments. The transfer of that data to an X64 architecture (X1 and PS4) should be smooth as butter: you're porting from PC to PC basically. In some cases - PS4 - it is. Same can't be said for the X1. The engineers screwed the pooch with their RAM configuration and the gimped GPU. You can only get so much performance out of a low-spec machine even in a closed environment.
