Basically, Nintendo release 3DS for $250
Nintendo price drop it to $170.
Around the holiday period, that $170 console is part of a LIMITED EDITION bundle with a free game.
Holiday period over, the free game's removed. But the console is still $80 cheaper than when it launched.
And of course, this could be a good thing if for some reason you wanted a Pink console but hated Nintendogs...
There's also a mistake in the article.
They say Rhythm Thief, when they really mean Rhythm Heaven....
When you look at the kind of graphics Rhythm Heaven has, you see what they mean....

Or as this comic puts it....

Exactly.
Conversation probably went like this.
Nintendo: "Our system isn't selling as well as we hoped. We need a big name like Monster Hunter."
Capcom: "We'll release Monster Hunter on your system if you make a second stick."
Nintendo: "But the second stick is pointless! The 3DS doesn't need it."
Capcom: "Do you want Monster Hunter or not?"

People always predict Nintendo's doom when they release a new console - but it never happens.
See the DS vs PSP, the Wii vs X360 and PS3, the 3DS vs Vita.
Every time, despite all predictions, the Nintendo console ends up outselling the competition in massive numbers.
For almost a decade now, various people have predicted Nintendo's doom because a "superior" rival console is in the works that is so amazing, it will apparently force Nintendo to go the way of Sega. But it never happens.
"Nintendo will go the way of Sega! The gimmicky DS will be no match for the superior PSP!"
"The DS becoming the most successful handheld ever was an accident! Nintendo will go the way of Sega! The gimmicky Wii be ...
It's going to get worse on the gaming sites before it gets better...
For months, we had to endure articles like "Why history proves the 3DS is destined to fail", "Why Nintendo should make games for the iphone." ...
Even now the 3DS is selling, the negative 3DS articles still vastly outweigh the positive. I guess it's the Vita's turn now.
It's in the Europe e-shop too.
I've played it.
It's a good game. Worth buying!
According to the comments of that site, it's just speculation...
Nintendo would be insane to do this just when the 3DS is starting to sell, and thrashing the competition so hard.
Errm...
Pullblox / Pushmo says "Hello!"
A New Nintendo IP launched to great reviews a few weeks ago, featuring a brand new character "Mallo"...

I hate to say it, but everyone was calling the 3DS launch a failure.
Nobody was saying "give it a chance".
CNET keep believing that console gamers will start abandoning games like Uncharted and Zeld to play crap like Angry Birds. Even when it's not true, they keep writing article after article about it.
This is the Guardian. Good paper, but they're mainly Apple Devotees - and they believe that Apple will take over the gaming world - despite facts not agreeing with them.
Three timelines - three goddesses - tri force
Persona's good, but it's no Monster Hunter :D
I think it is *some* of the timeline.
The Zelda series isn't finished yet - there's bound to be a few gaps which future games will fill in.
Yep.
At the time of the launch, the 3DS was incomplete - it didn't even have an eshop or web browser.
Yet this "gimmicky" "underpowered" "overpriced" (not what I believe, but what certain fanboys were saying) single-stick system with zero games still outsold the Vita.
Handhelds are here to stay.
My theory is that Capcom got Nintendo to make the second stick in exchange for getting Monster Hunter.
But it isn't required - any more than the stupid 3DS steering wheel add on is.
And let's how big the Vita is once Sony release the battery life extender.
The trouble is third parties generally do not put in the effort in for Nintendo consoles.
The Wii has a reputation for shovelware, but guess what, all of that shovelware came from third parties like Ubisoft making games like Imagine Babiez.
Even when Nintendo delayed their big games like Mario for the first few months of the 3DS, to give third parties a launch window, what happened?
We got no games whatsoever and Nintendo had to drop the pric...
