Streaming from your home console is only part of it. You could previous stream from your home console to Win 10 devices on your network (since 2015), but now Xcloud will allow you to stream those games from outside the network. I think that's what you're referring to.
Like King said, it also allows streaming through data centers without the local hardware.
It's all very similar to both remote play and PS Now. Just as those products were simila...
Right? The whole idea stems from the premise that they're launching an $800 "hardcore" machine. I thought Pachter said that as a joke though?
Yeah, launching an $800 console would be a problem. That's why they won't do that.
Can't you still do the Xbox to Windows 10 game streaming too? That came out years ago. Does anyone use it? I tried it a few times on my laptop.
I always thought of it and remote play as basically the same thing (if you owned a Surface instead of a Vita).
I get the premise and tend to agree. In addition to some of the things you immediately think of, improved specs and improved tools can be used in developing the atmosphere and general world building for games. Those can be just as important in telling a story as the script, voice acting, etc.
A lot of what makes gaming "art" is in its visual storytelling. Giving artists more and better supplies only serves to benefit their ability to tell us more of a story throug...
Power perception absolutely needed changing too though. It would have hurt them even worse if they didn't do something about it. Go back to any PS4 vs. Xbox article pre-2017. Now imagine if the PS Pro was included, but MS stuck with the base console. Holy shit.
Games perception also 100% needs changing. It looks to me like the plan has been to build toward next gen for that, but we'll have to wait and see.
I don't even think we got very much shoddy click bait claiming that. It was never touted to "change the tide" by anyone with sense, or from MS themselves.
I think it's clear that the X did exactly what it was aimed to do. MS will have 3 years of being affiliated with "power" before next gen. Perception change was its No. 1 goal.
They made a good chunk of revenue off it, but flipping the perception that came with that 720p fia...
I think that would be a really terrible reason to acquire any studio. If I owned a studio and knew I was only purchased for those reasons, I'm not coming anywhere near signing that deal.
Do you have an example where this has ever actually happened?
They can't complain too much after putting the other Metro games on there. They must have enough info to negotiate for Exodus after that.
Is it a flat rate or number of downloads? Or a combo? Not sure where you read that it is just flat fees.
I'm not sure anyone really defined how they're paid here, but I'm very curious. We know it's not by hours played, which wouldn't be of much interest for the Metro guys, but maybe MS should be...
Lol @ the sad troll attempt.
For anyone interested, PS4 version (of this 3rd party game) is also $30, but it looks like Target or Walmart is your better source over Best Buy or Amazon right now.
I expect combo drives will be used.
Side note- They can set prices for their software, but 3rd party can still have control over its pricing.
If one console overprices their digital games, another will step up and start undercutting prices to an acceptable price point. They'll keep each other competing for our $. Competition is a great thing. Otherwise, why don't Sony and others start charging $100 a game now? What's stopping them? You don't think retail would love that too?
The "blame" for that still mostly sits with retail.
Sony was questioned about this early this gen and explained how they were not wanting to "upset" retail. Ubisoft had similar comments, and I'm sure MS, EA, and Nintendo are in the same boat.
Until there is a switch, and the digital space becomes the leader and not the follower in the market, you'll continue to see digital prices at these high numbers. Retail doesn't wan...
And you're overlooking that it's not 2002 anymore. Now you're jumping to a much different issue.
First, those scary GaaS are already here.
My top two reasons for buying a PS5 are Naughty Dog and The Show. With ND, they've continued to deliver games with MP, DLC, and MTs. They even tried to put in an online game pass to make $ off of used game sales. All before GP was a thing. The Show has just recently scaled back on MTs, but there'...
Horizon 4 released 9 months after after they introduced the Day 1 first party releases. You attribute its sales to uninformed preorders but don't have any facts or logic to make that proposition. I don't know what more I can tell you. You should know that Gears is going to chart this September too.
MS can afford to "devalue" it's own offerings through the sub just like we've seen MS, Sony, and Nintendo sacrifice revenue on console bundles and pack...
I heard all these same "concerns" when discussing PS+, Steam sales, and GWG in the past.

The conclusion from those examples ...
Instead of paying for articles, you'd think MS would start by paying "pushsquare.com" to change its name.
@FGH
They really don't care. Why would they? Better question, if they do care, then why release it on Steam? For a few extra sales?
As you said, they'll be more successful on Steam (for Windows 10 of course), which will more than make up the royalty cut to Valve.
Gears 5 will be an excellent advertisement for PC gaming on Win 10. Plus it serves to get people on XBL even if free on PC, and it acts as easy advertising for Game Pa...
I'd be the last one to defend Forbes, but that's not what's being suggested here.
First, because of Windows, MS is uniquely positioned. Full stop. That's an over simplification, but it's true. Utilizing Azure is also to its unique benefit if it is able to become the biggest cloud platform for gaming, which is seemingly their goal.
Again, it's not to suggest that Sony or Nintendo couldn't also go to other platforms. It's sug...
"People act like Sony and Nintendo are unaware that the games they produce , which have much wider appeal than most of MS offerings, can be played on other platforms."
Who acts like that exactly? The point is quite the opposite. Sony and Nintendo are aware of it, but it's more beneficial (and critical really) for them to keep people gaming on their platform.
That's an advantage of MS that they're smart to capitalize on. Just like OP,...
Here's an idea: just give me a character creator. Others can make whatever the hell makes them happy, we stop getting stupid outrage wars, and I get to play as a Wookie Jedi as the good lord intended.
